What are the needs of our country?

    AND

What are the qualities that our nation needs to look in the person that will be our next President?

We need to restore the Office of the President of the United States with honesty and integrity. It is currently devoid of that.

We need a President that cares about people not an agenda. It is currently devoid of that.

We need a President that will be transparent. It is currently devoid of that.

As much as I have been against Obama blaming George Bush for nearly everything that's gone wrong in the current administration -- the next President would have a hard time not laying a lot of fault at the feet of Obama.

The test of integrity for each man and woman running for the office will be whether they want to place blame, or fix the problem. Personally, I don't think there is anyone whose name is mentioned right now that will pass that test.

    I still say ...

... and except for a handful in either party, throw the rest of the career politicians out on their ear, too.

Here's the start of my list

    1. Inspiring with an ability to unite a diverse nation.
    2. With a strong financial or business background.
    3. Able to navigate the federal bureaucracy
    4. Confident and able, someone who can project a strong image to foreign leaders.

Deacon, the natural leader of the GOP at the moment is Ted Cruz in my opinion but people overwhelmingly say that his birth in Canada disqualifies him.

The needs of our country are great. We must not only repair our economy but we must also put the government on a sound fiscal footing.

The next President must be a person who understands business and who is willing to use military strength for peace.

It is too early to think seriously because the 2014 elections might stop Obama once and for all if the GOP can win a majority in the Senate and keep the majority in the House. The next GOP leader will emerge from the results of the 2014 elections.

Even the liberals disagree with that.

As to your contention that he is the "natural leader" of the GOP, I'd say the GOP utter failure -- mistaken though it may have been -- to follow him and John Boehner in the fight to delay or gut the ACA belies that.

I have voted since the days of Richard Nixon. Ten elections I have voted for the Republican, and three for a Democrat, which blew up in my face. The three votes for the Democrat were out of an intense dislike of the Republican candidate.

The next President has to be elected by thinking outside the box. That would include a President who believes in serving the people and following the Constitution.

Morals and honesty are part of the equation, but with that, we need a mix of an ability to govern. Jimmy Carter was a great example of an honest person with no ability to govern. Our leader has to be able to connect with the people and at the same time a backbone. On the other extreme, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton knew how to govern but had the moral fortitude of a weasel. I suppose in my lifetime, the closest that could govern with a sense of honesty was Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan. The list of candidates since Reagan left office have been very average at best on both sides. Each party has won an equal amount of elections since then, and no one has lead with greatness. The last two Republicans to run for the office, McCain and Romney, were so bad that Obama beat them.

The election of 2014 will greatly influence to selection of nominees for President in 2016. At present, we have no idea who will win in 2014. We have no idea what will happen between now and this time next year. Government shutdowns tend to harm Republicans more. If I had to guess now, I would say the Republicans will maintain the House, maybe with a lesser margin, and the Democrats will control the Senate, but no idea if it will be less or more of a margin. If Republicans win both houses, Obama will become a lame duck at that point.

The president is a figurehead put in office by people who can invest billions to get him/her "elected" and they expect a return on their investment.

Change starts at home not in Washington. Elect an honest county Sheriff and put people in local and state government that aren't afraid to tell the fedcoats that we will no longer accept unconstitutional federal diktats from Washington.

Presidents are just puppets of a morally bankrupt greedy psychopathic global elite.

We need to abolish the federal reserve and IRS and return the money powers to the people (congress) instead of a group of private international bankers. We need to break up the monopoly on information the corporations now enjoy so we can get all the facts we need to make informed decisions instead of being led around by the nose by corporations that use the mass media to their advantage at our expense. We need sound bedrock principles to follow instead of going which ever way the current wind is blowing. We need people of all stations in life to protect and defend the constitution instead of those who seek to undermine it no matter which party or political ideology we might subscribe to.

We need to send collectivism to the recycle bin and permanently delete it and get back to the idea of individualism that made this country great instead of making everyone dependent on government.

Good observations, and if we would elect a President that governs by the Constitution and serve the people, all of those concerns would be addressed. Problem is, neither party will offer such a candidate.

In over 4,000 years of maritime activity, a "figurehead" never ran a ship aground. Yet this "figurehead" is doing exactly that, so I think there might be more to it than that.

    Please oh please, not Cruz!

I like former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson. I don't agree with him on everything, but he seems solid economically, which for me is of vital importance.

The reason a Party would not nominate such a man is because he would never get elected.

Many voters ony vote for what they can get from the govt - not what they are willing to do for our country.
