From my POV the Reps are divided into

    • the old line corporate\big business GOP. These folks aren't bothered to much by the mandates coming out of Washington. They don't necessarily like them but if they can't stop he mandates, they'll accept them as the price of doing business like the paying for their power and water. The big business types have a different take on immigration. They look at it as an opportunity to broaden their pool of possible employees.
    • small business/non-large urban area GOP. These folks are bothered by the mandates Obamacare and otherwise. This group doesn't care if the tone their rhetoric makes the GOP an also ran party on the national level. This causes, them not to take into account the growing number of Latino and Asian voters who would otherwise be interested in their small government\low taxes message. They also seemingly don't understand the police state their calls for rigorous immigration enforcement is and will bring into being.

Christie won New Jersey. That's not the same thing as winning Texas, Missouri, Florida, or Louisiana. The media of all types, liberal and conservative, can call him the "front runner" all they want. Its three years to the presidential election. A lot can happen. And Christie isn't the front runner regardless of what the media types say. He won't pass muster with the majority of the Republican Party.

Squire, I don't quite understand your point about police state being introduced in order to seal the border. Here in the Indy area, we have people from all over the world. Imagine how far we are from the borders. These people are supplicants and their lives are poverty-stricken as the Midwest is still the rust belt. For years, I have advocated only deporting the felons among the illegals, but I also believe that it would be cheaper to give more foreign aid to Latin America than to leave our borders open.

Asian voters are Democrats and so are Latinos around here. Latinos are primarily Catholic and Catholics are primarily Democrats since before the Civil War.

As for Christie, the Democrats are already rejoicing that he may be the GOP nominee, not because they consider it a setback for the Tea Party, but because they know that Christie cannot be elected President if McCain and Romney failed before him. Another GOP moderate cannot be elected after what George W. Bush did as a moderate.

On your point about taxes and minorities, it is doubtful that they disagree with the government policies enough to consider the high tax rate a burden. I find that few people realize that the USA has the highest corporate tax rate in the world. It is no wonder that so much of our merchandise is imported and so many people are unemployed. Actually, the economy is very stagnant around here and I live in a prosperous part of Indiana although I myself am as poor as a church mouse.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Out here, we have not many but a few "Latino" families and "Asian" families who have lived here for over 150 years. Many of these folks would be happy to vote Republican if the GOP fire eaters wouldn't keep kicking them in the teeth.

As for border control, to enforce it as strictly as some demand it, we'd have to build something akin to the old East German border with the West. We'd have to enforce identification authorizing a person's presence to the level of Soviet\Russian internal passport system.

Probably, you and I would settle for a system way less stringent. However, there are many who seemingly want the Mexican border mined and staffed with guards with shoot to kill orders. These same folks seemingly have no problems with internal passports. However, these are the same folks who would scream bloody murder if they were picked up as probable Irish\Russian illegals.

    Just for Crabbie!

I was so inspired with your cartoon, that I found a few of my favorites. Please note the same elephant and his empathy for sick guy in the hospital bed, dying from "I told you-so-itis!"

You paint a correct picture of the landscape....besides Christy has done nothing to improve on jobs in NJ, nothing to keep business in the state, nothing to consolodate government and nothing to break teachers unions which are a big drain on the property tax payer. I live in NJ so I see the smoke screens. This guy is just a RINO.

You have to ask yourself how many landscaping jobs can this country produce. Also we can easily add Irish and Russians to the list. An illegal is an illegal.

Yes, Crabby, I am listening. I have been listening since I was old enough to hear, to liberals and bleeding hearts from the decade of the 50s. The message has nothing to do with helping the poor, loving our neighbor, or extending a helping hand to those in need. The message stifles freedom and liberty. It destroys the sense of self worth that God put in each of us. It makes us blame others and not take responsibility for our actions. It crushes the imagination and destiny of man. It crushes the American Dream. The final result of liberalism, of which you are the poster child, is a society of mindless robots.

Yes, the Republican Party has problems and each year it inches towards a copy of the party you embellish. If you were consistent, you should be giving the leaders of the Republicans a gold medal. It appears you have no perspective, but only a desire for a nation of governmental slaves. For example, there is no way you would champion John Kennedy with your present standards. Not that I was a fan of his or approved of his life style, but on substance, John Kennedy was for lower taxes, less government, and a strong defense. In a comparison, had he been the Democrat nominee as of late, he would have run to the right of both Bushes, Dole, McCain, and Romney. Yet, you have constantly vilified all of these nominees. Also, you never mention the other Democrats that ran through the decades, create much more a gap than exists today between the two parties. That would include LBJ, Carter and Humphrey. The only true liberals of that era were McGovern, Mondale, and as of late, Kerry. The point is, you are using individuals in a manner to further the banner of the Democrats, instead of a concern for how we are governed.

The last man of substance your party produced was Harry Truman. As dishonest as Richard Nixon was, he and Reagan were light years ahead of Obama or any Congressional leader of either party now days.

If you are going to champion the liberal cause, then learn their goals, and support people who really want to help others, not self indulgent slobs that are interested in nothing but the next election.

Listen to me, are you listening?

Always glad to hear from you, Squire!

If memory serves, Jimmy Carter wanted an electric fence along the Mexican border. I opposed that because too many would have no idea. I just want a good wall. It seems to me that foreign agents can enter easily through our borders. I do not advocate internal passports.

I think that it is people like McCain who are driving people out of the GOP. My family were Taft Republicans who were against Ike, but my Dad and I liked Ike. I guess that I am like Ike in that I prefer the middle of the road and leave the gutters to the far left and the far right. I consider the Tea Party to have the correct economic solution to our problems but I believe that the GOP has always taken social stands against human depravity. Our last governor in Indiana, Mitch Daniels, believed that we should leave social issues alone and concentrate on economic issues. Sir, as long as there are people in the ditch, that is not a viable option. Think what you will of The Salvation Army, but General William Booth said something that strikes me as the truth:

Sorry, EWF, to pick on your governor. I am sure that he is a breath of fresh air but I don't support him for the White House. Indiana put a cap on property tax of 1% for homes, 2% for rental property, and 3% for businesses. Now if we could just get the county assessors to actually reflect the true market value of the property....

You are correct about corporate/big business though I would not call them GOP. The Wall Street Bankers are primarily Jewish, liberal, and democrats. Romney said it well last year. The rich folks are going to make out regardless of what happens to the country.

Ever hear of La Raza? Ever watch a street demonstration by those south of the border. Mexican Flags abound!

The stated objective of many of these people is to retake that part of the United States they consider theirs, the Southwest. Unfortunately they are spreading all over the country. Big business and the Federal Government welcome them. Spanish language signs abound. Stores increase their stock of Latino preferred foods. Press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish is common and more and more frequently there is no default to English. These people have no desire to assimilate. They will learn enough English to get by and that is it.

It does not take a police state to enforce the borders. All that is necessary is for the Federal Government to enforce existing laws and allow states to do the same.

The Law Against Hiring or Harboring Illegal Aliens (1999)

The following is an overview of federal law on hiring and harboring illegal aliens. It is not a substitute for professional legal counsel in specific situations.

    Summary
A person (including a group of persons, business, organization or local government) commits a federal felony when he:

    • assists an alien whom he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him to obtain employment,
    • encourages that alien to remain in the U.S., by referring him to an employer, by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or
knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.
Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime.

Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor. Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief.

    More at:http://www.fairus.org/issue/the-law-against-hiring-or-harboring-illegal-aliens

The town where I live is awash with illegals and nothing is being done to stop the invasion!

This problem should not be a democrat or Republican issue, it is an issue of the survival of this country!

And who makes La Raza's flag waving protests possible? The big banks and multinational corporations. They're all listed on La Raza's website. But wait there's more!

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) recognizes those corporations that have invested in NCLR’s long-term strategic efforts with multiyear, multimillion-dollar commitments, including NCLR’s Empowering An American Community Campaign.

    The Allstate Corporation
    Bank of America
    The Coca-Cola Company
    Citi
    Fannie Mae
    Freddie Mac
    Ford Motor Company
    General Motors Corporation
    PepsiCo Foundation
    The PMI Group, Inc.
    State Farm Insurance Companies
    UPS
    Univision
    Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

I am not a fan of big corporations. I have expressed my opinion of corporate America and the Wall Street bankers above. At best they are immoral at worst amoral. I am a big believer in the "free enterprise" system.

I have taken Senator Graham of my state to task, through private letters and letters to the editor, for his stand on so-called "comprehensive immigration reform" and his remarks before La Raza {The Race} where he called folks who oppose illegal immigration "racists"! If I get the opportunity to do so face to face I will.

All we need to do is look south of the border all the way to the Straits and see the kind of government most countries have. That is where we are headed and the invasion from south of the border will simply hasten that day!

For what it's worth, I have posted for years here that there is nothing to send these folks home to. Mexico exports people instead of fixing their own problems. I meet people from El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, and deep into Mexico. All I advocate is closing the borders and deporting convicted felons.

The Democrats have shown little interest in Latin America and conditions there have deteriorated beyond recognition as many countries are in the control of transnational criminal organizations involved in supplying the American narcotics market.

Some do want to return home and I imagine the recession here has stopped some from coming here. People are commuting in Indianapolis 40 miles one way for $8.00 an hour and less than full-time hours as temporary workers. Even so, many are much better off than they ever would be in Latin America.
