How many here came out of/from catholic or Charasmatic Churches?

That doesn't surprise me....think of how many more go to the Presbyterians, The Episcopals, the Lutherans, SDA, Methodists, the Charismatics. Its open hunting season on Roman Catholics....:laugh:

 

I grew up in a Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) and was a member until I was about 26 or so. I then joined a SBC church, which I am still a member of. Those are the only two local churches and denominations I have ever belonged to.

 

Interesting. My wife grew up in an Irish Catholic home, her uncle was a priest. She got saved when she was 12 years old at a Baptist church Vacation Bible School. She also had to endure going to a Catholic school K-12.

I was raised Lutheran, grandpa was a Lutheran pastor. Got saved when I was 13, been going to Baptist churches ever since.

 

I grew up in an IFB church, so I've been more or less baptist my whole life. While I don't limit myself to baptist, my doctrine base lines up with baptists moreso than anyone else.

However...
My mother grew up in a home with one catholic parent and one baptist parent. So she went to both churches growing up.
She says God eventually led her to the IFB church I grew up in. (I remember before that, I was like four, we went to the nondenominational church on base.)
While she was in the Navy, she identified as protestant at first and eventually decided to identify herself as baptist after learning more.

I haven't really left!

I came up in a non-charismatic background; drifted into the charismatic church when I recognized the excitement in their praise and worship; got caught up in WOF; learned the errors of my ways and theirs [WOF], when I heard them accuse those who were not being healed of being in some kind of sin; returned to the non-charismatic fellowship; then turned back to what I like to call charismatic-mild. I am still leaning toward the charismatic flavor of the church, as I do believe some of the gifts are still available to those who choose to ask for them, believe in them and use them FOR GOD'S glory, not their own!

Still, unlike many charismatics, I do not agree that the gifts are a MUST or else. And I do not practice the gifts around others, as I do not intend to cause anyone to STUMBLE.

Now, I do not want to hear any negative views, because this is my belief on gifts [it doesn't have to be yours]. It does not make any of us different; for we have all been bought by the precious blood of Christ, and we will one day be neighbors in the golden condominiums He has gone to prepare for us! :thumbs:

 

Personally while my doctrines line up most with the baptist church (and the type of church I'd look to attend would be either baptist or nondenominational because of that), I don't consider myself strictly baptist precisely because the other denominations seem to have a few good points as well.

I have found that often the typical Baptist has regarded the "gifts" as disposed because that is what traditionally they were taught. However, I (like you) am not a strict cessationist - but a modified one.

surely didn't intend to derail the thread, however, once I read your words, and went back and looked at the title and OP, I guess I may have taken this down a different track! So, let's all get back on track, and ignore my comments. I't kind of like in court when the jury is told to ignore the testimony, and the judge orders a testimony to be struck from the records. Kind of hard to do, but I faith you can and will leave me behind! :smilewinkgrin:
