.....you are a very staunch KJVO person, and, if you and your family are on vacation, you visit a church you've never been to, and the pastor starts reading from the NIV?

Would you stay, or would you walk out?

I think most KJVOers would check out the translational issue ahead of time. But,in case they did not, they just might stick around if they're curious. Then they might discover that even some NIV churches are solid and sound biblically. That might trigger a real change in their KJVO theories.

remonds me of the time that I was invited by friend of mine to his church grand re openning, as they had converted over a school building...

Stauch KJV baptist group, and they had invite dthe police chief to be keynote speaker...

he read the dedication of Solomon for the temple, but in the NIV!

you could hear them thinking "why, and when will it end?"

As a visitor I have been to several KJVO churches in America and South Korea. I felt obliged to hide my NIV as if it was contraband. You know, keep it hidden under a brown paper bag as it were. :)

Lemme reverse that & say I'd not walk into any church that advertised "King James Only" on its shingle, as I'd know it has at least one false doctrine in its core.

Even if it were advertised "KJVO" I would go on in.

In the early 2000's the KJVO controversy was going on here at the BB.

However it was based mostly upon the teachings of Peter Ruckman.(the English is better than the Greek and Hebrew, secondary inspiration, advanced revelation, things different are not the same, etc,...).

I read a great deal of Ruckman's works and when he was not riding the KJVO hobbyhorse, he was an excellent Bible teacher (IMO).

So, they do well when they're not riding the KJVO hobbyhorse.
Plus, you have no doubt as to where they stand concenring the innerrancy, infallibility of the scriptures.

To me it also wouldn't matter which hobbyhorse they were riding - 1611 or 1769 as long as they didn't preach from the Apocrypha.

what is sad is that some really into the KJVO position would refuse to listen to even answers from the greek , as the Kjv corrects that!

If I was still KJVO...I would stay, if I had a choice to do so. (If I was with my family and they wanted to leave, I'd probably have to go with them.)
I tend to be curious about opinions different than mine and have an open-minded approach to them. Within reason, of course.

As to the OP, I would think a dyed-in-the-wool KJVer would have checked the church out to make sure it preached only from the revered KJV before darkening the door of the church.

Come to think of it...I actually did have a scenario like this when I was still KJVO going to the Bible study hosted by the Christian radio station. That they used other versions was just "one of the things we don't agree with". Didn't stop me from going. I went for a couple years while still a KJVOist.

I would run out, but I might not make it long enough into the service to hear the pastor read from the NIV (Not Inspired Version.)

First off all, if I saw a projection screen in the sanctuary I would be extremely leery; they probably project the words to songs up there or use that new-fangled electronic projector thingy for showing oversized photos glorifying people instead of God. If there was a set of drums on the stage I would run out. If I spied any type of guitar, esp. an electric guitar I would turn right around and leave this worldly, syncopated beat music playing, compromising "church". If there is a guitar and drums you can bet this is the type of man-praising assembly that would dare to applaud, right in God's face! There better be hymn books in the pews and a tract table at the back of the church. Men better be wearing ties and sportcoats (minimum) better to be in suits though. Women should have dresses on and NO OPEN TOED SHOES. If any women were wearing pants my wife would probably faint. If any male teens have hair over their ears I'd have to leave. And if I saw one tattoo, I'd whirl around and leave so fast that your head would spin!

Naw, I don't think it would take me long to figure out whether or not God would want me in a particular church.

I have watched a few videos of Ruckman on YouTube. He is very entertaining to listen to. He even believes in UFOs which I have seen on several occasions.

Still, he is a little over the top for me.

I have attended a few churches that did not use the KJB over the years, usually because I had been invited. I can't really listen to other versions, but I never make a fuss. When the sermon is over I simply leave.

Entertaining. Is that a criteria for one in the "ministry"?
A little? He has been off the reservation for quite some time. He's supposed to be a minister of the Gospel. Yet if someone evidenced his kind of conduct here he'd be banned in no time.

Why would you waste your time on PR? Does he give you good debating points? :)

And you went downhill from then on.

Projection screens? Are they of the Devil as far as you are concerned?
You are a traditionalist, aren't you? I suppose you wouldn't want any unregenerate person in your kind of assembly because they don't look proper. I bet you're not a greeter --are you?

All those man-made rules of yours --did you ever stop to think that you are culturally-conditioned by your insular ways? A number of your non-negotiable items would bar true Christains from assembling together in some foreign lands.
    God --or you?

By the way,you haven't been around much. That's evident. There are a number of conservative churches which use the NIV and the services and people would resemble those of a Free Presbyterian or Bob Jones type of church.

The NIV is not The Message. You seem off your game.

What if that "dyed-in-the-wool KJVer" had no opportunity to "check out the church"? EX: (1) He arrives at his over night motel stay late Saturday night, and finds no other nearby church in the small, isolated rural area; (2) The church has no outside "advertisment" of its position (e.g., yellow pages, etc.)?

    Just a LITTLE?

We could dismiss his believing the antichrist will be a 10-ft. tall alien with huge black lips who'll land a mile-wide spaceship on the Mt. of Olives & impart the "marka de beest" with a kiss from those huge lips, as the rantings of a wing nut, but when he favors ABORTION FOR CONVENIENCE, as well as being RACIST, that's outright APOSTASY!

Not that I think ALL KJVOs are that bad, but still, the KJVO myth is a man-made false doctrine PLAINLY not from GOD.

And, as I said before, I'd not set foot in a KJVO church that advertises such on its shingle, , knowing it had at least one false doctrine.

What would I do? Just be thankful I had found a place to worship away from home and not worry about the type of Bible.

It was a satirical post. You seem to be off your game. And have no memory of my frequent defense and endorsement of the NIV.
