We now know Missouri won't play for a national championship this year. What was up with that 3 man D line?

Auburn had them spread out. It certainly kept them from stopping the run.

I agree!!! Auburn was running wide quite well on that 3 man D line. I know the Mo. coaching staff did a great job and I'm sure they know more about what they were trying to do than I do. They might even give the same answer the Bear gave so often when ask why, he would say every thing Al. does is to try and win the game. But from my lazy boy it looked like it just left the outside runs open. Mo. played a good game, the only other game I saw them play was the SC game. On how well Shaw did against them, I felt that a running Qb could give them trouble, even though they did well against Johnny Football in their last game.

Auburn was running straight up the middle and that center line could not do a thing about it.

On the other side Auburn could not get their passing game going. If they do not fix that they are a no starter in any more games.

Boy did OSU lay an egg. The defensive assignments and positioning was high school quality. Luke Fickell should be fired ASAP. 1998 all over again.

Michigan State is clearly the best team in the Big 10. They should be ranked top 3, IMO. Their QB is from a local high school around here and is a player.

They didn't play it the whole game, but when the did, Mason took huge advantage of it. I'm not sure what the idea was there. Mizzou has been on of the top three schools against the run all year long. Why we didn't just keep doing what we've been doing, I don't know.

They played well. Auburn was motivated. But Mizzou abandoning their defensive strategy probably cost them the game.

And Rev?? Auburn's gonna bury FSU.

Auburn ran for 545 yards against Missouri. They ran for 296 yards against Alabama. I fail to see a need to have a big time passing game with these kinds of numbers. I don't see FSU shutting down the Auburn running attack.

    I sincerely doubt this.

    Agreed.

What's your basis for saying they're far, far better? For all I know, you're right. Any empirical evidence you have as support would be great to see.

Mizzou looked like they were trying to run the 3-5 flex, which is good for option defense. Still, with assignment football, you have to make the tackles. Defenders were making contact in the right spot with the ball carrier, but failed to make the tackle.

Auburn has an outstanding running back!

Seems to me I've heard that song before.

Auburn is going to get their hands handed to them against Ole Miss.

Auburn is going to get their hands handed to them against Texas A&M.

Auburn is going to get their hands handed to them against Georgia.

Auburn is going to get their hands handed to them against Bama.

Auburn is going to get their hands handed to them against Missouri.

Bryant's stock answer was "When you throw the ball, one of three things is going to happen and two of them are bad."

And that's how the SEC got championship games with final scores of 9-6.

Missouri v. Auburn game was nothing but slop. Two teams who could not handle each other offense which means they had no defense. Auburn only has a limited running game and no passing game and you cannot win against FSU like that. FSU will have Auburn wore out by the third quarter. It is going to be real ugly.

Not really. ACC has just has many universities in it as the SEC. Just making the point that with so many schools in the conference, you're going to have a lot of really good players.

Maybe I just like defensive football but that was a great game.
I guess it was Steve Spurrier who put a lot of air in the SEC football.

On your quote of the Bear, I had always believed it came from Darrell Royal. However the Bear could have picked it up from Darrell, it was Darrell who helped the Bear with the wish bone.
I have a friend who is a Ohio State grad and he says it is a Woody Hayes quote. "When you throw the ball, one of three things is going to happen and two of them are bad."

Limited running game? What do you mean by this?

I didn't hear anyone say this one! When I was asked, I responded, "my heart says Mizzou, but my head says Auburn." Still, it was a good game.

Objectively speaking, Auburn will need to seal up their defense. Giving up 40+ points against Mizzou was not really a championship effort.
