I didn't see this on the BB, so I thought I would post this here.

I sure hope that the board is extremely wise in the selection.

    Any candidate you might suggest?

At the regular meeting of the Bob Jones University Board of Trustees today, Dr. Stephen Jones submitted to the Board his resignation from the position of president of BJU.

Larry Jackson, chairman of the Bob Jones University Board of Trustees, said the Board accepted his resignation as president effective at the end of Commencement, May 9, 2014.

In stepping down from the BJU presidency, Dr. Jones said, "The persistence of my health issues over the last three years is preventing me from providing the leadership the University needs at this time and prompted my personal decision to resign. The BJU mission is more important than I. Serving the BJU family for over eight years has been one of the great gifts of God to my wife and me, and I am looking forward to serving here in whatever new role God has for me."

"The Board fully understands the effects of Dr. Jones’ continuing health issues as they relate to the demands of the position," said Jackson, "and we appreciate his leadership in giving priority to the mission of the University. The Board is grateful for his significant contributions to the ministry of BJU, his dedication to its mission and his love for the faculty, staff and students during his tenure as president."

According to Mr. Jackson the Board of Trustees will immediately establish a search committee, consistent with the University by-laws, to identify candidates for president and will prayerfully fill the position as soon as God leads us to a qualified person. "The Board of Trustees is completely committed to the historic position and mission of Bob Jones University and to maintaining the University’s firm stand on the absolute authority of Scripture," says Jackson. "The Board will seek a new president equally committed to our mission and biblical position."

The Board recognizes that for 87 years God has chosen to do a great work at BJU through the Jones family and their contributions will continue. Since God is eternal, His work spans generations—He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Our trust has always been in Him, and we trust He will continue to show Himself faithful in accomplishing great things as we move forward under a new president.

Very sad to see a qualified leader have to step aside for health reasons.

God plans and knows. We don't.

He pointedly stepped aside (nice way of saying he rejected the offer) the last go round.

I dunno. You think they have forgiven the Rice Clan for that little dustup 40 years ago? And because of that little disagreement, me transferring from BJU after two years won't look good on my resume. As long as they don't know I walked on the campus grass in '72 singing (to the tune of the BJU fight song): "Bob Jones versus unity, we're marching on towards compromise. Bob Jones versus unity, it's Billy Graham we idolize...."

But hey, if they give me the call I'll pray about it.
