With the government's constant attempts to attack Christianity, one wonders if government employees at any level should have Christmas as a paid holiday? Certainly the Founding Fathers would not have had a problem with a paid Christmas holiday, but the modernday leftists seem to disagree with the Founding Fathers....

There’s not a good answer. The federal government does not represent its employees in terms of religious observations. But perhaps more importantly, if the government rejected Christmas as a federal holiday many of not most Christians would object to it as an attack on the faith.

I think that the federal government upholds Christmas as a secular holiday and a time to be with one's family (pretty much like it is presented in our secular society). Why deny something like this when it can be degraded into something secular (think of "in God we trust" being to our nation nothing but ceremonial deism - tradition, words without meaning).

So delete it as a holiday - and then allow people to take a day of vacation if they want the 25th off.

Or we could be fair and add Hanukkah, Advent, and Kwanzaa to the federal holiday list...

Three federal holidays off the top of my head being eliminated could save lots of money, that is, MLK, Presidents, and Columbus Day. In fact, for my two cents, they can have New Years back also, or replace one of these waste of money holidays with at least a day off for Easter, the most important day in history.

Here is the real point - people complain about seperation of church and state - yet have no problem in observing a fully religious holiday by not going to work. If they were that dedicated to the cause - they would go to work.

Actions (or lack of ) speak louder than words.

So the next time a person starts complaining about religion in politics ask them if they work on Christmas.

and by the way - I have no problem working on the holiday of atheists - 1 April
