I do not understand. Why name a church like that of a Catholic Church? The church looks similar to Catholic churches at least in my experience, however the Theology is far different. Do women wear head coverings in this church? Have any of you been here and what did you think? Are there other reformed churches that take on this style and what are the major differences between this type of Reformed church and a Reformed Baptist or Reformed Bible church?

Try the link for History and Identity on the St. Andrew's website.

I'm 99% sure Dr. Sproul is Presbyterian, so I would assume they hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Some Presbyterian churches seem to have a very formal and 'orthodox' looking sanctuary. This does give a feel of Catholicism to some. A while back Sproul was preaching and giving credence to priests as mediators to whom we confess sins (I believe he used the confess sins one to another as justification -- James 5:16 -- to the best of my memory) I wish I knew the title of the message but I heard it on his Renewing Your Mind radio broadcast this past summer. That teaching seemed to get way to close to Catholicism.

St. Andrews Chapel is a Protestant church. True. It has a beautiful stained glass window behind the pulpit. Perhaps that is what reminds some people of a Roman Catholic church?

There are Presbyterian denominations that are spartan in their sanctuaries. They would be akin to Primitive Baptists in that regard.

R.C. Sproul does not believe that a human priest can in any way fulfill a mediatorial role between another person and God.

    Are you sure?

Actually you'd be incorrect. I was somewhat shocked he defended confessing to priests as being in line with James 5:16 in a radio broadcast as well as in the above quote. It's unfortunate I can only search his archives back through November and I don't know the title of the message either as I heard it this past summer to the best of my recollection.

I don't know, I like a lot of the things they teach (some of them) but too many haven't gotten far enough away from Rome.

Pretty silent after I've proven Sproul did in fact teach what I've stated, huh? Funny how persons come out with their 'nuh uh, he doesn't teach that' stuff.

Like I'd made it up? :saint:

    Hello Reformed???? You there????

Never trust the words of someone who says never trust a Presbyterian. ;-)

EWF must be joking. I know he appreciated the ministry of James M. Boice.

Here's what the Reformed Baptists at Ligonier (R.C. Sproul) have to say about regeneration, which is right in line with Primitive Baptists concerning soteriology:

    Regeneration Is Immediate
    http://www.ligonier.org/learn/devotionals/regeneration-immediate/

    Excerpts:

"..... we mean that the new birth is something that happens without means. God the Holy Spirit alone works upon the soul, He does not use any other agent to change the heart."

"Though God does not make use of any means besides Himself to bring about regeneration, He does work through means in our sanctification, the process of growing in personal holiness. Scripture read and preached, the sacraments, prayer, and so on are all means that the Lord uses to mature us in Christ."

The Reformed are a weird lot. While they have the soteriology straight they also disregard scripture when it comes baptism. Then there is this sacrimental connectionto the RCC. LASTLY: the insistance on Convenant Theology...

    In a word? Paedobaptism.

Check out the St. Andrews bulletin for last Sunday. Four of them I tell ya!

They're about four Latin words out of Rome for sure.

Ligonier is not a Reformed Baptist ministry. Sproul and crew are independent Presbyterians.
