Rand Paul would crush Hillary Clinton in 2016. Watch this short clip, their first debate. Rand Paul is without a doubt the best hope for Republicans in 2016.

This would be a repeat of the 1980 election electorally.

At this point Paul may have a chance to win. Obama has hurt the Dems.

Paul is too schizophrenic on the issues important to win the nomination of the GOP. For example, in Paul's view, human life begins at conception and should be granted legal protection from that moment on, but then he muddies his message, as in a March 19 CNN interview where he said that as a physician he could see where there could be "thousands of exceptions" that could make abortion legal. An aide later clarified that Paul meant that a singular exception to save the life of the mother would likely cover thousands of medically different individual cases.

Paul flatly said that drug abuse is not a "real pressing issue" which completely ignores two massive drug/healthcare issues in his home state of Kentucky: A doubling of meth labs in the state, and an epidemic of prescription drug abuse. In addition, he favors legalizing "medical" marijuana, totally ignoring the research emerging that shows there is no legitimate medical use for marijuana beyond it's ability to offer the same level of pain relief as OTC naproxen, and its negative aspects as a drug of choice for well over half the drug abusers in this country.

On the key issues, spending and the budget, Paul is out of step with reality. He actually favored the sequester over the December budget deal -- despite the fact the sequester was about to initiate severe cuts to the U.S. military before that deal was reached. True, the budget deal wasn't that much better, but we're already at a depleted readiness level. Eighty-five percent of our brigades are not at full strength. We couldn't respond to an international crisis right now if we had to, but Paul would have left the plan in place that would have further decimated U.S. response capabilities.

On national security, Paul is truly schizophrenic. Paul reversed his position and now opposes closing down the Guantanamo facility, and has said he supports military tribunals. That's on the heels of him being in favor of closing the prison and opposing military tribunals. He has consistently opposed the Patriot Act, even going against the provisions of the law the Democrats supported in renewing it two years ago. In a truly bizarre departure from his libertarian roots, he said he might favor arresting and detaining those who attend "radical" speeches and rallies, such as those by radicalized imams who live in the U.S., though he denied he was thinking specifically of Muslims when he made the statement. This in spite of the fact that the Constitution makes specific provisions for foreigners living in the U.S. being subject to the same rights of due process as are citizens.

Paul isn't qualified to be president.

I notice you didn't refute anything I said about him, though. Isn't that interesting?

I like the Pauls personally but Libertarianism is difficult to assimilate into Reagan Platform political thought. Drugs should remain illegal. A Constitutional Amendment should protect the life of the unborn baby. We need a strong defense--peace through strength (Eisenhower). Gitmo should not be closed unless the prisoners are all executed. The Patriot Act should remain.

The campaign for President should be halted until after November 2014.

There is a lot about Rand Paul that I like but his rebuttal to the SOTU address Tuesday night was not one of them. He came across as a condescending lecturer.

Your man ain't even begun to get out into the limelight of the real political world; wait and see the backpedaling he does on his stance on gun rights, as is, he's in deep doo doo before he even gets out the gate.

First he gives us a history lesson for two minutes then he goes on...

    From the rebuttal:

"Government is incapable of creating jobs." Tell that to the millions of people that worked on Reagan's SDI program, which was government contracts given out to private industry and then the government buying those weapons. And government can sure create government jobs.

"It's not that government is inherently stupid.....although it's debatable", says the man employed by government, the son of a man that was employed by government.

But they don't call government contracts "jobs programs." When they call something a "jobs program" you can be sure that is the last thing it will create.
Actually, he's employed by the people of the state of Kentucky, serving at their pleasure.

Well ITL, I'm sure that there will eventually be a candidate that comes along that doesn't hurt your feelings with his demeanor and style, but this is Rand Paul. Maybe you don't really, actually, 'like him' after all.

Good grief, he's a KY Senator.

Like I said, you're going to put the bad mouth on him regardless simply because he isn't your man.

What about his hairstyle? Don't you have anything to say about that?

Calm down, KRN, relax ... deep breathes. I was actually pointing out the error of ITL's take on Paul's post-SOTU speech. Government contracts aren't jobs programs, they're government contracts. Paul, in other words, is right. And it's hard to call him a "government employee," as did ITL, when it is only a limited segment of the population to which he is actually responsible. Yeah, the government gives him his paycheck, but he's Kentucky's man.
    Too curly?
