No indication one way or the other, but as the Bible doesn't indicate they ascended with Him -- a point of fact I'm sure would have been worthy of mention by the four gospel writers if it were true -- I believe it can be safely assumed they died a "second death." But God can do anything He wants, right?

The Roman Catholic Church maintains much 'tradition', non-Biblical information purported from 'the times when' but not strictly considered history. I don't think they have any information, but I could be wrong. Anyone with a RCC contact?

I don't know Berean, but I did write a novel about that once. The idea that since it is "appointed once" for man to die they could not have died a second time and instead still walk the earth at his witnesses. That was the background to my book anyway.

It was kind of a Christian/fantasy novel. Don't worry no one ever thought it worth publishing and I have the only manuscripts.

 

It seems there is no Catholic tradition that attempts to explain these events. In his footnote to Matthew 27:52 in the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, Scott Hahn writes:

 

I'd STICK With Jesus!

We know that the closer we come to the Rapture, the more the devil will float out there to capture the hearts and minds of the unbelievers in an effort to sway them from MAKING Jesus their Lord and Savior!

I'd stick with what the Bible says, and what and how that word applies to you individually.

Some of these things will sound good, but hirlings look like most shepherds, too! Be careful little feet where you walk. Be carefull little eyes, where you look. Be careful little hearts what you behold! Be careful little minds what you take within and try to make if fit into the Scripture you've been taught!

Scriptural gymnastics is an event in the world of intellectualism, but it has no part in the life of a believer. This is how many will be led off to the side of the Narrow Path in the midst of their walk. And while I believe (Calvin taught me this) that you will get to the narrow gate, it will be a more lonely walk, as you will be just to the right or the left of where God intends you to be!
