The Pastor and ME ....

The problem with most preachers is..., they preach. I had a Drill Instructor back in the 60's that preached at us all the time. If you screwed up he made you think the earth was gonna open up and swallow you straight down to hell. :laugh:

I really enjoy our pastor. He not only preaches but he "teaches". He's quite absent-minded at times but that's no biggie. We're going to hire him a note taker. :smilewinkgrin:

On the serious side, for sure, I'm convinced that our current pastor is the best we have ever sat under when it comes to scriptural understanding and application of the Word as applied to our everyday life.

 

Our pastor sounds a bit like Hamel's. He preaches and teaches, he is self-deprecating and uses his own life lessons as illustrations of what not to do as a Christian. His recounting of his mistakes as a young seminary student at Southern in Ft. Worth, and later at New Orleans Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and as a young husband, father, and pastor, are amusing -- at least the way he tells them are -- but they always have a good, solid point that helps draw attention to the text and the sermon content. He is a great blessing to our church and our community.

 

We have a contract pastor....who really isn't a pastor, he is really hired to preach each Sunday and visit the sick but that's it. No training up people, no teaching SS or Bible study. They pay him real well though for those services. Not a bad gig I'm thinkin :smilewinkgrin:

Seminary trsined, 2 earmed PHD degrees, NT Theology and Church...

man of prayer, theology, and willing to have differing views held within church!

 

I love the Pastor. He is fairly young and is seminary trained. Also teaches at a seminary.

 

Does your Husband know about that though?

 

Today would be the day to remind him.

 

I am trying to decide what is young and what is old.

 

I didn't vote as nothing quite fit. Our pastor is middle aged, trained to be a music minister but functioning as senior pastor. Some things he does to an amazing level of excellency. Others, not so much.

When he is functioning in the "not so much" areas I absent myself from those activities. Still leaves plenty of areas where I can participate whole heartedly, and causes no strain either on us or on him or on the church.

Not every service or activity of the church will be a perfect fit for every person.

 

I voted that the pastor was at the center of our church's problems. He's a lousy preacher, doesn't know the Bible very well, is poor at winning souls and discipling them. I don't even want to go to church Sunday, but my wife says I have to go, because if I don't who else will preach???

 

Boy that really nails it for me as well.

 

:laugh::laugh: At least the wife says she likes my preaching. The Japanese never say anything.

I remember Dr. Lee Roberson saying once that he quit the ministry every Sunday evening, and joined up again on Monday mornings. I remember also he told about one famous preacher who went home after the service, threw himself on the bed and started crying. His wife asked what was the matter, and he replied, "I can't preach, and I don't know anyone who can!"

 

How well do you like your present pastor? And what is it that makes you like/dislike him? I like my co-pastors. While they present their sermons differently, I like how they each present. I like how Matt is more heart driven, and how Scott is more....heady.

Would your feeling toward the pastor be a reason to leave the church, or would you remain [miserable, angry and upset] until the pastor is forced to resign. If I were miserable, angry, upset, I would pray about leaving, and when released (by God) I would leave. I am not sure that I would look back.

Why would you stay if you are miserable with the shepherd leading the flock? I wouldn't.
