    IF we claim that we are saved by grace ALONE, thru faith ALONE, MUST one really have good works in order to have been truely saved?

    If a person professed, lived for the Lord obvious fashion for years, but then did un christian sins.behaviour does that nullify salvation, prior actions before god?

    One can do good works, and sin, both.

    One can bring food to a neighbor in need, go back home, and slander him ,for the reasons he is in want, behind his back.

    Were these good works null? Not a chance, the hungry is fed in the name of Jesus.
    Is the reward lost?...maybe.

    This is probably more common than any of us would be comfortable admitting.

    I suppose it isn’t the works - but the faith behind the works, that matter. We know that one can have works apart from true faith in Christ…but can we have a true faith that does not produce works? It seems to me that James may be answering “no.”

    think that paul and james had this tension between Grace and worked worked out, as they were neither stating "free garce" side, nor "Lordship salvation" side, but the biblical position of that sinners become saints by Grace alone thru faith alone, but that once saved, God has prepared those good works for us to do, to bring glory to His name!

    Yes, as just because we do a good work as Christians does not mean God sees it as being really one, for we can be doing it just to "keep God happy/owe Him" having a wrong/bad attitude while doing that!

    So one could be saved, yet remain a baby Christian, and live for God when "it suits them", and would be the man making it thru as if thru the fire!

    "There are no stupid questions, but there are a lot of inquisitive idiots."

    They'd better have:

    5...in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
    6 who will render to every man according to his works:
    7 to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:
    8 but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation,
    9 tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;
    10 but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:
    11 for there is no respect of persons with God. Ro 2

    So ...

    Servant given the one talent who buried it in the ground and later returned it without interest: Saved, or lost?

    well, he did not obey the lord, was disobedient, so would have been lost per certain salvation views!

    I'll let the others ...

    :godisgood:
    .... send the scriptures ... all I will say about your question is that if I never did a good work in my lifetime, so long as I recieved/accpeted Him as my Lord and Savior, I would be saved.

    HOWEVER, there is also one spiritual caveat ... and that is, it seems to me to be highly impossible and quite improbable that if I am saved by Grace, not to go about, growing in Him, and thus seeing the fruits of good works, following me all the days of my life on this planet! :godisgood:

    To quote someone on here...'Zactly... ;) :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

    This was the passage I was thinking of btw. In Matthew 25, He was commending them...I hope "commending" is the right word to use, for what they did. He was lambasting those on the left for their works, too. Our works show Who we're working for, iow...

    How about some specific examples of "good works"? What is God looking for us to do?

    Here are starters:

    Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.

    Only starters however. This is, IMHO, a representative list, not an exhaustive list.
