Step right up with your Nascar predictions.

Sprint Cup Champion - Kevin Harvick

Name the type of track that the Cup circuit races on and Harvick has won there.

Restrictor plate wins? Both Daytona and Talladega. Check.
2 mile track wins? Fontana. Check.
1.5 mile track wins? Charlotte, Atlanta and Joliet to name a few. Check.
Flat track wins? Phoenix and Loudon. Check.
Short Track wins? Richmond and Martinsville. Check.
Road Course wins? Watkins Glen. Check.

Perhaps it would have been impossible for a brand new team to win a championship under the old points system, where having a rough start would essentially doom your season, but that matters far less under the Chase.

Rest of the Top 5 in points - Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jimmie Johnson

Rookie of the Year - Austin Dillon

We've got some very good rookies this year and I like Dillon the most.

    Daytona 500 - Denny Hamlin

As strong as he's been this week, I can't find any reason to not pick Denny to win. Nothing would please me more than to see the #88 win, but after so many 2nd place finishes and close calls that turn out to not be wins, I've about given up hope that Junior will ever win another race.

It is darn near impossible to make legitimate predictions in Nascar. There are so many variable that cannot be predicted or foreseen.

Very true, rev. I could have titled this thread Nascar Predictions sure to go wrong. But, I say, Be Bold!

Biffle and Edwards will be in the mix, too, and I expect them to be in the top five at the end of the year, with CCR's list losing Hamlin and Earnhardt. They had decent years last year, but they don't really have the heart for what it takes to finish up there at the top. Their inconsistent driving over the last five years, even just last year, tells me they can't do what it takes to put back-to-back seasons together. I think Carl might actually win the overall title this year. Greg will be second or third, and if he's third, it will be Johnson sandwiched in between. (I really don't like that guy much.)

All that said, I can really only predict on thing: The "Big One" will happen tomorrow, next July back at Daytona, and in both Talladega races.

The top ten leaders of the entire race could get caught up in a pile up and some guy who has been trailing the entire race could catch a break in the last two laps and win the whole thing.

Hamlin finished 2nd in the points in 2010, 9th in 2011, 6th in 2012 and was hurt after the Fontana wreck last year, his back wasn't right when he came back, but he overcame that to win at Homestead. 2013 was in no way a decent year for him.

Earnhardt has finished 7th, 12th (after missing 2 races for a concussion) and 5th in the last 3 seasons.

I have little respect for Biffle after he was willing to settle for 2nd in each of the last 2 Daytona 500's. In both races, Biffle was 2nd on the white flag lap and he made zero moves to try and pass for the win. Biffle's a good driver, no question, but I don't see him challenging for a championship.

I suspect that you're just really tired of seeing Jimmie win so much. We're all tired of that (except his fans).

I think he finished third in 2012 and sixth last year. Third, he might've made a move from, but it's hard to make a winning move from sixth.
Yeah, that's a good part of it. But he's got an attitude I find hard to take, too. He seems genuine, affable, sportsmanlike, but there seems to me there is something just pretty arrogant about him lurking underneath, too. Maybe it is just the winning, but I feel like there's something else. Maybe it's just my psychology acting up on me.

That's probably where he finished, but that's not where he was running on the white flag lap. In both 2012 and 2013, when Kenseth and Johnson took the white flag, Biffle was 2nd and did nothing to try and win. Biffle's a good driver, but I think he was in a position where he didn't know what to do to try and win. And, I get that. There's lots of guys that simply don't know what to do in that situation, but come on, man, do something.

Heh. That's totally what it is. :wavey:

One of the reporters I follow on Twitter, Jeff Gluck, asked his followers last year why they disliked Jimmie so much. Having talked to Jimmie as much as he has, Gluck genuinely did not understand the hatred of Jimmie. The majority said that they don't hate Jimmie, they just want to see somebody else win. That's where I'm at with him, too.

Jeff Gordon, however, is a whiny little crybaby that I've never liked and never will. This has nothing to do with what we're talking about, I just wanted to throw that in.

TNID, you're not one to shy away from predictions. Who's your horse today?

Obviously, I like Carl. He's come close but never won the 500. I think he might get it today. If he doesn't, I'll go with a dark horse. People would go nuts if Dillon won. I don't think he will, though. Too much pressure for a rookie. I'd go with Kurt Busch. New team, new car, new attitude. That might be what it takes.

If Harvick can get over the hump of stupid things happening, then yes I like his chances.

OK, let's go with "who's gonna win it all" just past halfway to the Chase.

I'm still going with Carl. Third-place points, strong car every week. He'll get at least one more win before the Chase and probably have one or two in the Chase itself.

Have to admit, Jr. has surprised me this year. Looks like he finally found a set (sorry, no offense intended). Jimmy isn't going get it this year. He'll be hanging around, but he's either not as strong as he has been or everyone else finally caught up.
