Anyone here know of a local church that has been rebranded the Harvest Bible Chapel extension? Our church is considering partnering with them, and in doing so we will have to change our name to that. This seems to be some kind of trend nationally, and I'm not sure what to think of it.

Thoughts on MacDonald? There were some less than flattering things said about him and Harvest on a web site created by ex- members and elders (theelephantdebt.com).

Trying to see how this can be both a positive and negative thing.

It is a silly thing to do something like that. I would not be a part of it. I have not heard one thing bad about him or his ministry. Except that they want to do this. This definitely changes my view of him and his ministry.

The link in the OP is missing an "s" I believe.

Its really quite something that so many celebrity pastors end up having these kinds of websites develop out of their ministries. It is a word of warning for those of us in ministry.

The numbers given are staggering. Quite unsettling too.

As we've learned so many times in the past, whatever goes up must come down. Eventually your deeds will be discovered. As for me and my ministry, we shall serve God humbly, avoid public platforms, and be open and honest about all things.

Just a note, Harvest Bible is an accreditted member of the ECFA which is a pretty respectable group. I wonder how, if they've gotten this status, how accurate all these statements in the website above are in light of the documentation they've made public.

    Check it out here: http://www.ecfa.org/MemberProfile.aspx?ID=35101

Did you read the letters from the ex elders posted to the site? Which numbers are you referring to?

I agree! Being the fair minded and unbiased person that I am I think this new trend in satellite churches or whatever is simply an ego booster!

A local body of believers is supposed to be a local body of believers, not a piece of another body somewhere out there. Sometimes a Church will start a mission somewhere but when able to support itself that mission should grow up and move on. The Church of which I am a member started a mission Church 15 or more years ago which has outgrown its mother. Sadly, in my opinion, it is going the satellite route.
