Kind of like getting a ministry certification against having a graduate degree.

Not to pour water on the fire...well, no that's exactly what it is...but respectfully, this doesn't matter that much. If Luther Rice wants to get real accreditation they need to pursue SACS and ATS accreditation. Those are the ones that matter. :)

Nonsense. ABHE is a great accreditation to have; arguably better than the ATS of today. LRU will have SACS one day, if they stay the course. Snobs will still condescend - because one has to have somebody upon which to look down his nose.

Well that's entirely not true. Go look at their member list and show me three high level seminaries that are considered to be reputible.

    http://www.abhe.org/pages/NAV-Directory.html

This isn't sbout being a snob, its about demanding higher standards for institutions of higher Christian education. Too many on that list are unaccredited schools with little reputation or rigor.

Baloney, it has everything to do with your snobbery.

Sometimes these so called higher standards are nothing more than a certain size library or enough money in the bank. Standards that have nothing to do with the actual education of students.

Money in the bank, I'd ask for proof. But research centers have to have a library in order for research to take place. If a library is not adequate to facilitate said research, then it should not be considered for high standards. That does affect the education of the students. I've run into this by the way... having to hump across the state to get to a good library.

Okay, if that's the case...meet my challenge with the list provided.

Show me three highly credible seminaries on their list of accredited member schools.

Baptist Bible Seminary in Clark Summit, PA has regional accreditation & ABHE.

Faith Baptist Theological Seminary Ankeney, Iowas has regional accreditation.

Multnomah Seminary has regional and ATS accreditation

(not sure I could find any more though)

Your challenge does not take into consideration that ABHE has historically provided accreditation only to undergraduate institutions, and there are many reputable and fully-accredited undergraduate institutions on the list (and LRU has a sizable undergraduate program, which is why that is relevant). ABHE has only recently expanded its horizon to the graduate level. They have not even achieved Dept of Ed for grad-level accreditation yet (that is pending, though they already have CHEA).

Once that is in place, they will be a viable (and arguably better) alternative to ATS.

To say ABHE doesn't matter is simply academic snobbery. They are a reputable accreditation provider with a solid history and with full US recognition.

Why is ABHE considered better than TRACS?

    Because TRACS is that bad.

I'm new to the accreditation debate. Can anyone help me, beyond just saying that the schools aren't reputable, with why TRACS is bad? I'm not currently disputing that TRACS is bad at all--I really have no idea. A crash course on what makes for good accreditation, hopefully beyond mere reputation, would benefit me a lot. :)

These are excellent, valid points. ABHE has long been considered the gold standard for faith based, undergraduate accreditation. There is no reason to believe the same standard will not apply at the graduate and postgraduate levels.

Moody Bible Institute has been regionally accredited for years, yet chooses to maintain its status with ABHE.

Briercrest Seminary is accredited by ATS, but like Moody, chooses to maintain its status with ABHE.

I don't think you can get much more reputable than Briercrest and Moody.

A huge advantage that the ABHE has over ATS is a greater openness toward online/distance education. It is for this reason, I believe, that you will see an increasing number of seminaries pursue ABHE accreditation.

Luther Rice lost any credibility it had with the Ergan Caner mess.

Ummmm...are you actually familiar with the situations concerning Dr Caner or just making a troll like inflammatory post?
