    From another thread:

Crabby brought up an interesting question.
He said we should give an offering of 10% of our gross.

    Would this include:

    Food stamps
    Welfare
    College grants
    Uniform allowance
    Gas milage allowance
    ect

Thanks for the reminder of how ridiculous "tithing" is, in our day.

Good thing we have nothing to do with it.

If 10% is what he has proposed in his heart and it is given cheerfully then how CTB got there is none of our business. It has been my experience that if you have to go through a convoluted thought process to come up with what constitutes gross income the cheerfulness has already left your giving.

The better question - if one is needed - is did a farmer tithe what he planted or what he harvested?

How is that a "better question," Padre? is planting financial "outgo" or is it "income?" As to the harvest, same question.

    There's your answer.

As to Salty's OP, yes, everything that is income goes to the tithe, whether your earned it or sponged it from the government. It's a very simple process, as Padre indicated. "What did I make"? "What's 10% of that?" "The answer to my second question is what I give to God, through the church."

I personally don't give a sewer rodent's furry posterior whether some see "the tithe" as New Testament or not. I do. That settles it for me.

If one worked for himself or ran his own business, then he would know well the difference between gross and net, or, as in the words of the Scriptures, "increase."

But Crab-Mao-boy's puny little ten percent of his "gross" is nothing compared to the widow's mites, who gave her entire substance, and whose giving received the approbation of God.

It is also meaningless, as the 90% of his substance goes to support his living, as he lives to promote a pro-death and pro-Sodom political party.
