KKK was armed faction of Democrats ?

    If you look at the Reconstruction and Jim Crow periods, you'd be lead to think so. However, there was no organic linkage, just overlapping membership rolls.

    can you explain the bolded portion better ? because I did read up on the Reconstruction a little bit, and even if not ALL Democrats were KKK, if follows that those who were KKK were also Democrats.
    and if I interpreted what little I read correctly, then it is astonishing how most blacks of today could be taken and agitated by the likes of Sharpton and Jackson against conservatives and Republicans.


    And even in the Jim Crow laws, these were passed mostly by disgruntled White Democrats from the South. Am I correct ?

    If it's "kind of like" Sinn Fein and the IRA, the membership roles may be different, in that the intellectuals and politicians are Sinn Fein while the thugs and murderers are IRA, then just as pinoybaptist said, if not all Democrats were KKK, but all KKK were Democrats, then the KKK was an unofficial armed wing of the Democrats. That massacre 146 years ago proves that.

    It was the democrats who would not vote on a civil rights bill. Robert Byrd died a hero of theirs.

    You could replace 'Democrats' with 'Sinn Fein' and 'KKK' with 'IRA' and have an accurate statement. The similarity is amazing.

    There is no doubt that the KKK had Democrat support and the Radical Republicans had every reason in the world to crack down on the terrorism. In addition to this good act the Republicans did an awful lot to punish the South as well. It only hardened the attitudes of the South and gave Democrats control of that part of the country for another 100 years.

    I don't think these Republicans are the kind of example that modern Republicans want to emulate.
