I cant's stand it, especially when I can't make out the words.

As some of you know, I am against to CCM and Christian Rock and other Contemporary Christian Genres, If you listen to those than that's between you and God, Not my job to judge the Spirituality of Christians based on that.

Now I am equally frustrated by the Large Choirs who sing music to a more conservative style, yet you cannot even make out the words...

What's the point of having Spiritual Songs if I can't even understand what's being song? How's that suppose to lift me up?

Suggest the words by projected on the screens (assuming you have those in place) for all songs, including the choir numbers.

Music in church should be simple, non-exhibitionistic, easily sung by all, and used sparingly.

There are two contenders for the place of my favorite songs: One is the recitative "Comfort Ye" from "The Messiah," and the other is "I Got Shoes."

Only one should be sung in church.

    So, when you said...

...in this thread, http://www.baptistboard.com/showpost.php?p=2107381&postcount=10, were you lying? Should we discuss the fact that so many who rail against modern things are also compulsive liars who will say and do anything to push their agenda?

I wonder if this thread is specific to music presented in Church, while his statement in the other was merely his personal preference. Kind of like Aaron's two favorites but with only one deemed appropriate for church.

Liking and approving are not the same thing, keep in mind. I like several things that I could name that I do not approve of because of my beliefs.

    This.

Also, I would point out that likely not everyone will have as much trouble understanding the words. To some degree it's a matter of whether or not you're used to the style enough to make out the differences. (Just as an example, when I began listening to CCM, I had to look up the lyrics to most songs before I could understand them. Now I don't need to, even songs I'm hearing for the first time are easy to understand.) I imagine there are other factors as well--sound quality, listener's hearing level, etc.

I changed my mind and became more conservative, there was a 3 week period where I was starting to experiment and get into CCM and more Contemporary Southern Gospel.

I've since repented and the closest I'll get to is a very conservative southern gospel style.

You should try to be more meek before you go jumping to conclusions and calling a fellow brother in Christ a liar.

it's funny you said that because here is the full context of my post:

"No,actually I do not want a biblical basis for condemning music, I have close friends who are pro CCM, Personally I like CCM and some Contemporary Southern Gospel,

But I am fearful of compromising truth and righteousness for pleasure."

That's a pretty important but, and it goes with exactly what you were saying...

Co 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
1Co 14:7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
1Co 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
1Co 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

I didn't ask about clarity of words or music (which is, in fact, present in the majority of music) but I asked what is the purpose of worship? Is it to lift YOU up?

No that is not the purpose, But Spiritual music should encourage us with the message, words that are not understand cannot do this.

How can I worship the Lord with words I don't understand?

Could you go to, say China, and sit with a group of Christians in church and worship - even though the songs are in Mandarin?

I could. but I don't think it would be very edifying for me.

Well if it was a song I knew and could sing along in english!

But why are you looking for worship to edify you? Do you study your Bible to edify you? Do you serve God to edify you? What is this idea of edifying you? I have never thought of my worship ever being about me. When it becomes about me, I have a problem.

If I am going to worship God it's going to be in a way that I can understand and communicate.

I'm not going to worship God with something I don't even understand.

I mean why not model after how the Catholics use to do things and have our preachers preach in Latin... I mean... you go to the worship for him right?
