Was on FB and some mutual friend of some of my friends whom is a pastor of a church and the man is loaded with tattoos', dresses very baggy, loves rap music, and hangs out with people loaded with Tatoo's showed up on my wall and he apparently is one of these Reformed Charismatics like Mark Driscoll. While I agree with their soteriology these people are bad news as they have the appearance of evil. While men like Erwin Lutzer and Charles Stanley may not be Reformed in theology, they sure come across more decent in appearance. I also can't stand the garbage rap music that some of these hokey's love to play and how that garbage dishonors God.

Whats your view of these Reformed Charismatics? I know that Mac has a low opinion of them, as Mac is a Fundamentalist Calvinist.

    it's true.

I was at an Assembly of God church last night..

They were blaring "Christian" rock, it's really interesting to see how after about 15 minutes of being bombarded in the flesh with this worldly music then they started speaking in tongues...

It's so obvious that they are worshiping God in the flesh, it makes sick and grieved the Spirit of God inside of me so much.

Then they had a prayer meeting, which was great, and we had a good bible study.. i'm never going back though.

I don't care if you call me a legalist or whatever, I'm sick of people feeding their flesh with worldly music while pretending to worship a God who has angels before him saying HOLY HOLY HOLY. ... He is Holy, and we ought to approach him with Holy Sacred music, Not music spotted by the world.

I'm really starting to pick up a connection between the manipulation of the flesh with the hard rock beat, and speaking in tongues/being slain in the Spirit, I believe it all goes hand and hand!

These Charismatic types worship God in the flesh.

Although I don't agree with the charismatic movement, "reformed" "dispensational" or any other variety, I have to say to this comment: "Not to the people to whom they minister."

How well do you think you relate to leather-bound bikers? My guess? Though it could be wrong, I'd say about as well as I do: Not well.

They do. Leave 'em alone. As long as they preach Christ and Him crucified and win people to Him, leave 'em alone.

Exactly. There is so much judgment on this board as to the idea that "if people don't do church the way I think is right, then they are in error, and won't they be blessed." Most of this stuff is personal preference anyway, not doctrine.

It's crazy. I have a longtime friend that I got out of touch with for various reasons (he had introduced me to my wife on a blind date 22 years ago) and we met for dinner recently. He was on fire for the Lord, had quit drinking, serves in the church, etc. I found out the name of his church and looked over their website. Believe it or not, they are a charismatic Lutheran church! Really!

I'm not charismatic in my theology, but I want tattoos (my wife won't let me ;)), I dress casual (i wear anything from a tie one Sunday to shorts and a polo to jeans; and I'm an elder), I love good Xian rap music (Shai Linne is my fav). Do I have the appearance of evil? What if some of these people had tats before they were saved and are enriched by reformed rap (as I call it)? Why criticize just b/c you (1) can't stand rap music & (2) think it dishonors God when I think it is a beautiful expression of God??? I'll tell you this too, the rap that I listen to has better theology than most praise songs you probably sing.

Rap has better theology??? Hogwash!! It's because of these types we hold to the doctrine of separation. John of Japan will call me a hypocrite because I have criticized the IFB. Indeed I have but they have their merits and this is one. But frankly I prefer reformed IFB.

Though I've only heard a few Christian rap songs I have to agree with you. Most CCM praise songs are just that, general, non-specific praise to God's greatness. They do however, have more melody than rap songs.

I'm telling you, the rap I listen to far exceeds the dribble you hear in typical p&w songs. Just b/c you don't like the style, the rhythm and rhyme they create is outstanding... true examples of living out the creativity of an image-bearer of the Poet/Creator God. They even put sermon jams in many of their songs... Piper, Mahaney, and others. The only hogwash is that you write it off w/o due diligence all b/c you detest the style. I pity you b/c you refuse to enjoy it. It is excellent.

Here is an example, though its not a rap, but a sermon jam from Shai Linne: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbrTK5c7s9c

Here is one on the prosperity gospel... he got a lot of flack for this, but I think he was spot on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJmcEAwazD0

Our music minister calls them "7-11" songs -- the same seven words sung eleven consecutive times.

Unfortunately, a lot of contemporary Christian songs are using that same formula in the chorus and bridge. I find it maddening when we don't change screens -- the projected lyrics to the music -- while singing through the same phrase six times. That isn't glorifying anything but a lack of imagination, in my opinion.

The music minister could take a cue from his own disparaging phrase.

I think it is a solid contemporary Southern Baptist concept.

Like the "Our God is an awesome God" type songs? He is awesome, of course, but songs like strike me as having a shallow theology behind them. New Agers can make some of those words fit their belief system. I find my mind drifting during songs like that sometimes.

Not so when I hear words like, "There is a fountain filled with blood....." That one leaves me broken inside.

I tried to listen but turned them both off in under a minute. Oh dear what is the church coming too? You wanna listen to that music its better off doing so on your own iPod, but any church that plays that music in the service I will be walking out in the middle of the song and it will be a scene!

Better but still I would not advise any rap or jams in the church service. While I do not hold the same position as that of the place I went to school (Bob Jones University) nor that of my church, our position on music is very similar.

This is decent music. While it would be outlawed at BJU and in any BJU type church, I still think it honors God.

There is a fountain filled with blood,
    Drawn from Immanuel's veins.
And sinners plunged beneath the flood,
    Lose all their guilty stains.

    Wonderful song!!!

Yep. On about the 4th repetition in a row of the same chorus I quit singing. Sad , but true.
