Featured What is the primary translation used at your church?

ESV chair Bibles. Pastor and elders preach out of ESV. We try to get the Scripture readers to read from the ESV. This is all done mostly for communication sake.

 

Was the NIV1984 but is now the ESV :tear:

 

I don't think there is a real consensus at my church.

• We have a mix of NKJV and 1984 NIV pew Bibles.
• The Pastors use the ESV for preaching and teaching usually.
• SS Teachers widely vary - ESV, NASB, KJV, NKJV, NIV, and since we use a lot of Lifeway stuff we have HCSB materials.
• Most of the old folks use KJV or NIV84.
• I teach the Youth (Teens) class and when I started the Bibles were NIV84 but were falling apart. I moved us to the HCSB which is my preferred translation ATM but I occasionally will use the NASB.

I'm waiting for the KJVO to come in and start screaming "CONFUSION!"

Pastor main english text used would be the Niv 2011. while the most common lay person bible version prbably a combo of theNiv 1984,Nlt, and the Esv!

 

As best I can determine, there isn't one "official" and/or "primary" translation that's used at my church ( www.lighthouseministries.org ).

Our lead pastor/elder usually uses either the ESV or the NIV, but often times will make references to other translations.

I imagine that most of the older members probably use the KJV, but then I have noticed that some of them do use other versions.

We also have several members whose primary language isn't English, and usually they'll use a translation that's in their native language.

 

We jumped on the ESV bandwagon.

Our Pastor has gone from using the NIV to now using the ESV. There are a variety of different translations used by the congregation, and this is okay with the Pastor.

there are some who would tend to see the Niv/esv/Nasb etc as being the best version to use, but have not met any who see it as the KJVO do!

 

In our IFB church, the pastor preaches from the KJV, and our pew Bibles are the same. However, he will not infrequently ask for a reading from another translation (typically NASB, ESV, or NKJV) for a seemingly unclear passage. Usually this is limited to Sunday and Wednesday nights, when the attendees tend to be weighted toward mature Christians.

 

That sounds like a sensible approach. How often does he consult another translation?

 

The preaching Bible is the NKJV. However, members bring whatever their preferred version is. In my church I've seen NKJV, ESV, NIV, HCSB, NLT, and even someone who uses the Amplified. Even our pastor's preferred Bible is ESV and that is what he uses with his family at home.
