Soon the church will be starting a new series and this time it wont be topical but will be a book of the Bible. I sure do hope we study the OT, as so few churches do, and there is so much I do not know about various OT books. Our church does study discussion based education, so not traditional format found in most churches of just passive lecture with no homework or involvement by the students which is a great way to learn absolutely nothing! The local Calvinist church where I meet with the men weekly does the same thing as we are studying through a book and it's discussion based. To learn one must study, do HW, memorize scripture, and answer questions, and or take tests.

Does anyone know of any good study books on various books of the Bible in the study guide format? MacArthur has a number of good ones, but for the NT only. I am familiar with Warren Wiersbe but only have his commentaries and not his study guides. Anyone else in the same format but the OT? If a good one I will recommend to the pastoral staff.

You might look at this series,

    http://www.davidccook.com/catalog/index.cfm

Then put "Wiersbe BE series" in the upper right product search box and hit "GO."

These books have study questions, and certainly will not bother any Calvinist leaning folks.
This series covers many OT books, or parts of books.

    Excellent recommendation!

I will mention this to the pastor as he has a Bible study series geared for SS.

Periodically, the BE series has a book on sale. I've got 4 of them and an additional 4 of his study series. :)

Tommy Higgle has several Journey series studies. Not too deep, but not too shallow.
