Simple question, nothing to read into it, other than this: Are you tired of the direction in which this country is headed?

I could write a treatise on the ways I'm fed up, not with our country, but with the people we keep electing to run it. An example: Pat Roberts has served Kansas in the House and in the Senate for 47 years. He doesn't even live here anymore. Hasn't for 20+ years. He visits periodically, but he's not a Kansan anymore -- he's a "Washingtonian" with all the sell-out and avarice that implies.

It isn't the fault of the lobbyists or the special interests, either. These clowns go up there and take an oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic ... bear true faith and allegiance to the same ... tak[ing that] obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion ... well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office ... o help [them] God." They know what the oath says. And almost immediately the walk away from that oath and forget what it says, and proceed to fail to "support and defend ... bear true faith and allegiance ... " and completely ignore the requirement to "well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office ... "

They are the ones responsible for the special interest influence they make available through their greed and lust for money and power. If they truly believed that oath, they would tell the lobbyists to get lost, they represent the constituents of their districts and states. Legislators have become professionals. The founders didn't anticipate that would be the case. They envisioned men who would leave their farms, shops, law offices, medical practices, etc., for a few years and serve, then hand over the reigns to the next willing sole who would make the same sacrifices of time, energy and family they had.

Somewhere along the line, that vision was lost. We have, as a result, a poorly governed country where the primary concern of the officeholder is the next reelection effort. Making that sole concern colors their actions on the floor of the House and Senate, determines carefully chosen words for media and voter consumption, and assures that no one will take a position on anything of substance.

We the voters have allowed elections to become popularity contests, not holding candidates feet to the fire over issues, but willingly abandoning our responsibility to test their mettle and their political philosophy in open, honest debate with no hype or Madison Avenue packaging.

I see no hope. Years and years ago, about the time I was in high school and the early years of my military career, there was a series of novels written that predicted the exact scenario we see today as a result. Gradually the nation and its leaders acquiesced to the socialist/Marxist influences of the rest of the world, let it creep in a bit at a time, until, in the last book, it ended with the House and Senate voting to repeal the Bill of Rights as "too restrictive of government power," with enough state legislatures of the same mindset that it was a foregone conclusion it would pass.

We're there. Only it didn't take an act of Congress. It took a overreaching autonomous and unilateralist president who simply ignores that which he finds "restrictive" to his agenda. There is only one way out of this:

    Total collapse and revolution.

I'm too old for that nonsense. Maybe it will hold off until I'm gone.

That's them! Wow, I couldn't think of the author or any of the titles. It slipped me mind the first in the series was Advise and Consent or I'd have rediscovered them a long time ago. The last novel was an alternate sequel, Preserve and Protect, which was an ironic title, based on the outcome. I hadn't realized he did a second alternate, The Promise of Joy, which apparently did not have such a bleak, dark ending, but wasn't very "promising," or joyful, in opposition to the title, either. Thanks C4K!

I still have Promise of Joy, Capable of Honor, and preserve and Protect on my shelves. I loved the two endings depending on who died in the assassinations at the inauguration.

I guess you would have read The Devil's Advocate by Taylor Caldwell as well?

Absolutely! It was a required read in 11th grade literature.

Though I don't know that it is a "blueprint for change" as many conservatives seem to think it is. It's a great read, though

Someone somehow has to halt this slide toward total government tyranny or we're done for.

Our leadership is only interested in staying in power and the vast majority of the electorate is too ignorant to see what is happening. Too many of them are looking for their next government handout.

I believe this country is definitely in decline. It will still be awhile before we bottom out and disappear, but if we keep electing Obamas, it will happen sooner rather than later.

OK being fed up with America is much different than being fed up with the direction we are headed. No I love this country and would not be fed up with the Country. Fed up with the extreme far left agenda. You bet.
