Normally a church will contact a pastor - and then will feel led to call him as pastor.

Do you think the opposite could be true?

Could a man feel he is being led to a church to be the pastor- and encourages the church to call him.

Happens all the time where a pastor hears about an opening and God lays it on the pastor's heart to contact the church. The church then takes it from there.

I've had several individuals keen on personal advancement contact our church and let them know they feel "called" to pastor our church over the years. We refer them to the personnel team's sub-committee on pastoral vacancies fulfillment which meets at the discretion of its chair...me. ;)

More seriously, I've heard of it from time to time. Generally the church already has a vacancy and handles it like a normal search process.

What I've found too is that a lot of times, the pastoral search committees are more likely to consider such a contact if the person is coming from a "better" situation and it looks as though the contact is of God and not merely someone trying to "move up".

Not really talking about where a church has announced an opening...

I don't think I've heard of too many pastors contacting churches where there are no announced (either publicly or word of mouth) openings.
