On the 60th anniversary of the 1953 military coup in Iran that overthrew the government of radical nationalist Mohammad Mossadegh, the US has declassified documents detailing how the CIA’s secret operation brought the country’s Shah back to power.

“American and British involvement in Mossadegh’s ouster has long been public knowledge, but today’s posting includes what is believed to be the CIA’s first formal acknowledgement that the agency helped to plan and execute the coup,” the US National Security Archive said.

Monday’s publication under the US Freedom of Information Act came as something of a surprise, since most of the materials and records of the 1953 coup were believed to have been destroyed by the CIA, the Archive said. The CIA said at time that its “safes were too full.”

The newly-revealed documents declassify documents about CIA’s TPAJAX operation that sought regime change in Iran through the bribery of Iranian politicians, security and army high-ranking officials, and massive anti-Mossadegh propaganda that helped to instigate public revolt in 1953.

    The spectre of Operation Ajax

Britain and the US crushed Iran's first democratic government. They didn't learn from that mistake.

    < snip >

A new book about the coup, All the Shah's Men, which is based on recently released CIA documents, describes how the CIA - with British assistance - undermined Mossadegh's government by bribing influential figures, planting false reports in newspapers and provoking street violence. Led by an agent named Kermit Roosevelt, the grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt, the CIA leaned on a young, insecure Shah to issue a decree dismissing Mossadegh as prime minister. By the end of Operation Ajax, some 300 people had died in firefights in the streets of Tehran.

The crushing of Iran's first democratic government ushered in more than two decades of dictatorship under the Shah, who relied heavily on US aid and arms. The anti-American backlash that toppled the Shah in 1979 shook the whole region and helped spread Islamic militancy, with Iran's new hardline theocracy declaring undying hostility to the US.

    What's your point here Poncho?

I don't know a single person that didn't know this years ago.

    Now it's "official".

The terrorists don't hate us for our freedoms.

Yeah but ya gotta admit it was good propaganda when Bush and the neocons kept repeating it over and over and over.

It got them their war and all the benefits that went along with it.

Exactly. Anyway, Jimmy Carter established the current Iran. Don't you think that this thread belongs in the history section? You know, what the evolutionists consider the dinosaur age?

Nope. History is relevant to the present.

Washington set the precedent in 1953 that if it doesn't like the way another country is handling it's internal affairs (threatening the profits of it's corporate cronies) it'll use false flag terrorism to achieve it's goals.

Kermit and the CIA helped establish the current Iran. Just like the CIA helped establish Bin Laden and "Al Qaeda" in Afghanistan.

Your strategy here CMG (as it is every where else on this board) is to try to rewrite history by only looking back to the point where you can conveniently place all the blame on a democrat.

    Yes, it's that obvious.

The terrorists do hate us for our freedoms and our values. Their stated goal is to conquer the world. Any denial of that is just wrongheaded and foolhardy.

Yeah I can agree with that, if we're talking about the neocons that have been terrorizing the world with their support of Islamic terrorists ( see 1953 Iran, Soviet era Afghanistan, Libya, Syria . . . ) and they do indeed have a stated goal of "global hegemony" (see the PNAC documents). And they truly hate our freedoms. If they didn't they wouldn't keep using their Islamic proxy regime change fighters aka "the terrorists" as an excuse to keep taking them away from us.

Jimmy Carter is the founder of today's Iran and that case is closed. Sorry, Don Poncho, the Baptist Board does not deal with Garden of Eden stuff as current events.

You're in lala land today, Poncho.

I've tried to engage, but you're jumping around from one rant to another. No point that I can see, except you hate neocons. Big deal.

    See ya.:wavey:

Lets talk about then candidate Reagan sending Casey to negotiate with Iran to delay releasing the hostages until after the election to ensure a victory over Carter? The payback was illegally selling arms to Iran under Reagan. This was the so-called Iran-Contra affair which was never completely investigated. I'd love to see documents about this declassified.

Answer with FACTS not personal insults and I might take you seriously. Did you ever think it was odd that the hostages were released on Reagan's Inauguration Day? And right after that came the Iran Contra Affair? There was one reason for both.

The very first time you ever, and I mean ever post any facts on this board we will all be surprised. You have done nothing on this board but post DNC talking points. You can take your hypocrisy elsewhere. It doesn't fly here.

That is a broad statement. Salty Reports, you decide. Here his voting record.

Would the liberals wanted him defeated? Would this be considered a perfect score?

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) (Pub.L. 104–199, 110 Stat. 2419, enacted September 21, 1996, 1 U.S.C. § 7 and 28 U.S.C. § 1738C) is a United States federal law that allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages granted under the laws of other states. Until Section 3 of the Act was ruled unconstitutional in 2013, DOMA, in conjunction with other statutes, had also effectively barred same-sex married couples from being recognized as "spouses" for purposes of federal laws, or receiving federal marriage benefits.

The way I read this DOMA is a federal law that allows STATES to not accept same-sex marriages granted in other states. I don't understand how the President could have had anything to do with blocking it. The STATES have the power.

I'd call these facts, citing a specific law and describing its provisions. Your turn.

Once again you try to stop the historical clock at a time where you can conveniently blame a democrat.

It's to late to try and hide that which is already in the public record. The CIA engaged in false flag terrorism in Iran to install a Washington friendly dictator. That started the ball rolling. These are facts you can't erase by blaming a democrat. But I have no doubt you'll keep trying.
