My daughter (third child) graduated from Pensacola Christian College with a teaching degree. I don't have a clue as to her choice other than she claims teaching is her forte'.

She is now teaching at her second Christian School and has been there starting her 4th year.

Now here is how it usually works in a Church Sponsored School. Not All Mind You..., but many of them.

First, the Pastor remains the Pastor. The Pastor's wife becomes the Principal by default. All the Deacon's wives who so desire to become teachers..., become blessed to do so through special anointment. I don't really know how this works in most churches but in some, folks are ranked according to their contributions.

In the first Church School that my daughter taught in the "office politics" were absolutely horrendous. These women could not get along no matter what. You couldn't get 100% of them to agree that it was raining outside. Daily fights; daily arguments; daily temper flareups; back biting; gossip; snide remarks; notes of wrong-doings posted everywhere for all to see and basically, the school days resembles a business meeting at a Southern Baptist Church.

Back in the 70's we had our first two children in a Christian School. There were three kids in the class named David. Their last names were Miller, Marshburn and Melton. Each of these kids signed their papers, "David M".

One day the teacher grabbed hold of my son and shook him all over the classroom accusing him of cheating on the test. Once my son was able to regain his focus he said, "...that isn't my paper." He was accused of cheating in front of the entire class.

When I found out about it I put him in the car and to school we went..., after of course, I had secured a 15 minute appointment with the Principal..., which in this case was the Pastor.

An hour and a half into this meeting the Pastor finally said, "...well, it is our intent here at the FSRBC School to teach honesty and integrity to all our students..." at which time I butted in and asked, "Then if my son was accused in class of cheating why wasn't it mentioned in class that he was in fact not guilty of cheating? Where's the honesty and integrity in that matter?"

    End of meeting.

My daughter is now starting her 4th year of teaching. It hasn't been but two weeks and already the birds of prey are coming out of the woodwork. The asps are coming through the vents. The office politics is in full swing.

Here's the sad part about it. Young children don't understand all of this but they can sense when something is wrong. They can feel the tension. It makes them uneasy and fearful. ...and we're creating this atmosphere in the name of the Lord?

When, in Gods Name, are adults going to grow up and mature evolving into what our Lord expects adults to be? It's absolutely shameful! Church's and Church Members are their OWN WORST ENEMIES and can't see it because of the gossip surrounding Sister Joyce and her inability to afford dress suits for Sunday Morning Service!!!

People MAKE ME SICK!!! Especially those that should know better but refuse to do so. THERE SHOULD BE NO OFFICE POLITICS IN ANY CHURCH FUNCTION!!!

Study the ant and become wise? This is not only about "work" but also, WORKING TOGETHER. Stinking ants are smarter than humans?

People MAKE ME SICK!!! Ignorant people that is and just because someone is absent a college degree does NOT make them ignorant. You want to be ignorant? Join a Baptist Church and jump right into the office politics.

    "Some" people make me sick!!!

You may be unhappy, but I would kindly encourage you to consider whether your use of Our Lord's Name is in vain. It seems disrespectful of Him.

Rolf..., take a couple of aspirins, maybe lay down for a bit. You'll feel better when you get up.

...besides, what makes you think you can gauge my unhappiness? My attitude wouldn't fit into Your Church? You've so decided..., therefore it is?

Okay, I will count my kindness as wasted on you, but I will still ask that you to modify that bit. It is offensive.

I've always thought it was a bad idea for churches to have schools so closely affiliated with them. The schools and their politics inevitably become more the focus than Jesus Christ and the church.

The cattiness you mention is exampled , again, on this board daily for the same reasons your daughter is experiencing in that school. People's morals and values are tied into something else that isn't Jesus.

He isn't the center of their lives. You can't keep Jesus first and mistreat your neighbor.

I would counsel your daughter to find a Christian school that IS NOT directly affiliated with a specific church.

The schools that are affiliated with a church are generally a powder keg waiting to explode daily.

    Been there, done that...

I was hired to be the administrator of a Christian pre and elementry school. There were tons of family members, from the church, on payroll. I was asked by the board to clean things up and make the school profitable.

With God's help, the school doubled in size my first year. The second year we added grades 4-6, and had a waiting list for both schools.

I had to hire tons of new staff, and the new staff came from other churches, my idea. The pastor used to require if you worked for the school you went to our church. I showed him that this was illegal to require staff to quit their church and join ours.

This took care of church nepotism, and made for a fantastic staff, including those who stayed from before I was hired. Of course my divorce forced me to leave the ministry. But I was blessed with the great results. We ended my stay with 120 pre schoolers, and 75 in K-6.

I think the problem of politics doesn't always exist in these schools, but it is up to leaders to make sure the school honors God first, and profits and success will be around the corner.

Tell your daughter to prayerfully hang in there. There are great church schools out there, absent of politics.

Then you have some like this board. Full of negative, judgmental critics. All in all, I stay because there are some genuine folks like you and all my conservative, patriotic friends

Confirmation. Tell your daughter to run.

The church needs to be the church.

How on earth does one be the Pastor of a church and the Principal of the church school?

If the church is big enough to start a school, the pastor should have more than enough to do just pastoring to not warrant another 9 to 5 job.

She's young. And young people just starting out are often much more influenced by people who have been at it for a while. Tell her to seek God's face first. And you may want to pray with her.

Hopefully you'll both hear from God and He'll be telling her to grab her stuff and get as far away from that place as she can lest she become infected by the same brand of "Christianity" that so many there are now practicing.

Thank you Zaak, rd2, for being able to see into the depth's of the situation(s) I described. It's not really that hard...

I suppose I'm like George Patton when it comes to whiny, cry-baby, dimwitted liberals who immediately become offended to anything and everything they might happen to see or hear or read that's not so-called..., politically correct. In short, "they" have the right to be offended and the offender has the "obligation" to be subjected to "their" judgmental comments of disdain. Give me a break. Grow up! In the instant matter..., it's affecting the kids.

An unaffiliated church school, unfortunately, is not a viable option in our area. Perhaps in the future but not right now.

As for the objection that has already been lodged against me..., for using the Lord's name in vain..., all those in favor raise your right hand and I'll stand corrected. Just be advised that in my neck of the woods it's merely a comment to expound on an issue..., to drive a point home, which we hear from the pulpit on occasion.

Otherwise, thanks to the both of you. It's time for some maturity amongst the members of main stream church members.

I think you gave yourself the answer. You use the Lord's name as "merely a comment to expound on an issue". If that's not vain, I don't know what is.

It is hard to be a Christian School w/o the Church...

I don't agree. Most of the best schools are affiliated with a church. I made sure Jesus was at the core of all we did, and we had a tremendous school and ministry. Granted there are bad situations, like the one HAMel mentioned. But, with the right leadership and staff, it is an extention of the church ministry, and more importantly, one more tool through which the church can reach the community for Christ.

I have seen bad church schools and good ones. But there are also good churches and bad ones. Today a ton of churches are being run by one, two or three families. And like church schools operated by family members and the pastor they are usually dying on the vine.

I'm going to take a wild guess as to the nature of the church/school.

    Independent fundamentalist Baptist church
    KJVO (most likely)
Strict separationist (no CCM, no movies, no pants on women, etc.)

    Am I right?

Power struggles split churches and destroy schools. If we lack the discernment to choose our leaders including school administrators, wisely, we will inherit the wind.

I second this. Using Gods name in vain is a violation of the 10 commandments.

You specifically asked for people's opinion on the matter:

"all those in favor raise your right hand and I'll stand corrected"

and then you mock us for giving the opinion you asked for. Who needs to get a grip here?

You used the Lord's name lightly, uncaringly, which is the very definition of using it in vain.

If that is common in your "neck of the woods" so what? Blasphemy and profanity are common everywhere. That you occasionally hear it from the pulpit and do not see that as a problem is what astounds me!

As to the rest of your OP. You raise some serious concerns that seem to plague a lot of the churches. It's sad that so many Christians have to be told to act like Christians. Then again, I would say that much of the time a lot of goats are being told to act like sheep, but that's another topic.
