Doing some research on Michelle Obama.

    from the info:
    Melvinia Shields
The earliest known relative on her mother's side is her great-great-great-grandmother, Melvinia Shields, who was held as a slave on a farm in Clayton County, North Georgia. Her master was Henry Walls Shields, who had a 200-acre farm near Rex. He would have worked along with his slaves.( bold my emphasis)

Salty, I am not sure what your point is in this post.

Many small landholders worked alongside their slave or slaves as they did not have the resources to hire an overseer. They had to work with the slave or slaves.

Most folk in the South did not own any slave.

It seems to me, that the great.....grandmother having nothing to say about the baby's daddy speaks loudly in the fact she was made pregnant without consent. It sickens me! And the baby would have been of "mixed" blood...the poor kid, in that time and place!

The PC view of slavery is that all masters were horrible people and did nothing but abuse slaves.

As Crabby pointed out - there were many masters who were not like that.

I would like to mention that I do not condone slavery,
But on the other had, we need to understand the actual facts of history.

Sorry it took so long to answer - but my computer has been on sick call for over a week. I asked Crabby to come over and lay hands on my computer. He was shocked at that!

The sad reality is that to the greater majority when given power over anyone they abuse it. I don't believe it otherwise, in the case of the grandmama who never ever spoke about the white father of her child speaks for itself, she probably had no say in the conception.
