    Within our State a local politician of Party A is endorsing a candidate of a state-level office seeker of Party B.

    Is this good that a politician endorses an opposing party?

    Or is that politician a contradiction to the member of the party of which elected them?

    Should that politician of Party A officially and publicly register with Party B

    Other thoughts?

    We have former GOP Senator Lugar endorsing the daughter of Democrat Nunn in Georgia. In Lugar's case, it is attributed to his personality.

    Generally no, it isn't good that a party official would endorse an opposing candidate. However there could be extenuating circumstances. It would depend on who was running for the state office for Party A, what the chances of winning were, and other factors.

    Is there a third party involved?

    I ask because here in Minnesota we have the R, D, and Ind parties. The previous Independent Party candidate for governor recently endorsed the Republican candidate for governor totally ignoring his own party candidate. I think he did that because he wants to see the Democratic candidate (and incumbent), Mark Evacuatin' Dayton, defeated and he knows his own party can't do it, and that votes for the Ind Party candidate usually get siphoned off from Republicans.

    Yes, but it will not make a difference in this particular race.

    IMHO, the reason the politician is in Party A is because the father was an elected position of party A. - ie name recognition.
    However in reality, again IMHO this politician is more aligned with Party B.
