There is an aspect of this just past election that has me scratching my head. Conservative politicians were voted into office and yet at the same time, the same voters approved a whole bunch of liberal initiatives, such as the following:

    1. Alaska, Arkansas, Nebraska and South Dakota raised the minimum wage.
    2. Oregon and Alaska became the third and fourth states to legalize marijuana for recreational purposes.
    3. Californians voted to shorten the sentences of people serving time in prison.
    4. Colorado and North Dakota dealt rejected the effort by some opponents of reproductive rights to ban all abortions by passing laws giving fertilized eggs legal rights and protections that apply to individuals.
    5. In Washington State passed initiative 594, which will require criminal and mental-health checks on gun buyers, drew an impressive 60 percent voter support on Tuesday.
    6. Florida passed a constitutional amendment will dedicate $9 billion in real estate transfer taxes over the next 20 years to preserving open spaces, including major investments in the threatened Everglades.
    7. New Jersey voters dedicated $2.15 billion in corporate tax revenue to land conservation, also over the next 20 years, rescuing a popular program that was on the verge of extinction.

Yes that is the only way liberals can cope with this loss. Calling the American people names and accusing them of mental illness. Keep that up. It will be helpful in the next election.

You know because the war on women narrative and the conservatives are racist narrative has worked so well.

They were sick of Obama. Sick of being lied to. Sick of being called racists. sick of hearing they don't care about the poor. Sick of hearing they hate women.

Because, as your post proves, none of it has been true. Americans aren't racists. They don't hate poor kids. To see you admit it is refreshing. To see you put up a piece that proves it is exciting. Unless that part escaped you, which it very well could have.

Now why don't you man up and apologize for all them names you've been calling them, and all the bad things you have said about them that aren't true.

Otherwise you are a fraud, coward, and hypocrite.

Oregon is hardly conservative. They have a Dem Governor, two Dem senators and all but one U.S. House member is a Dem.

Alaska is the last frontier and most people up there believe in individual personal liberties.

California is not a conservative state. Most elected office holders are Dems.

I'd have to see the language of the individual bills. It could be fraught with loopholes and crazy ideas. Notice that you used the phrase "opponents of reproductive rights" instead of "pro-life"--most telling.

Show us that conservative gun owners oppose this common sense measure and you might have a point.

Doesn't the definition of conservation cover conservatism? I don't see any conflict here.

    Stupid. Not crazy.

After all Wendy Davis got 40% of the vote in Texas. That's a lot of stupid people for Texans to have to live with.

Blue state rejects drivers licenses for illegal immigrants

The big story Tuesday night was the midterm shellacking Democrats took. Less amplified was the rejection of a law to provide drivers licenses to illegal immigrants in the blue state of Oregon.
Measure 88 put the state’s law to grant people who cannot provide proof that they are in the U.S. legally to obtain drivers licenses up for a popular vote. The measure failed, 67.4 percent to 32.6 percent, according to Oregon Live.

Dumb question: What is the statistical significance of an election where only 40 to 60 % of the body politic show up at the polls?

The majority of those who vote think it ok to murder unborn children.

We have a distinct lack of moral fabric in our country. It shows up in every aspect of our lives.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

    Regarding your question on turnout:

The Bipartisan Research Center estimated voter turnout for the last four Presidential elections as:
    54.2% in 2000
    60.4% in 2004
    62.3% in 2008
    57.5% in 2012

Midterms often draw a much smaller crowd, as the greatly under-informed voting populace in this country seems to think the President is a more important position than the entirety of Congress.

The Democrats are old, tired, worn-out and devoid of any new ideas. They are recycling issues from the past such as depression era minimum wage (1938) and 1960s era equal pay for women and freedom to access birth control (only an eastern state had stopped the sale of the pill during the JFK era). When you haven't had a new idea for over 50 years, you get stale and boring.

Young people are leaving the Democrat Party.

Some people have bought in to the idea that the minimum wage should be high enough for a single income earner to support a family on. That was never the intention of minimum wage, as the MW jobs are typically suited for low-experience workers and teenagers looking for seasonal work. I know Republicans and democrats alike who fall for the idea that a person should be able to support a family on minimum wage.

There are solid, scientific arguments on both sides of the aisle for marijuana legalization. Personally, while I don't support the use of marijuana, I also don't support it leading to criminalized activity and being worthy of prison time. We could save the nation a lot of money, and we could actually help people, if we would review our idiotic War on Drugs and, instead of criminalization, we would legalize/decriminalize and offer treatment.

As someone else said, California is far from being a bastion of conservatism.

I'm not sure what exactly you're driving at here. Is this a good thing or bad thing for conservatives? The apparent typo "dealt rejected" is confusing. If they rejected the measure, then I can see how it would be viewed negatively by conservatives. If they "dealt" (I'm assuming a positive connotation here) then I struggle to see what's wrong.

As InTheLight wrote, no sane gun owner or gun rights activist is opposed to mental health checks and background checks. It's the fringe whackos that both sides of the aisle are left to deal with that cause the most heartache and grief.

Conservatives actually do support conservation efforts. The thing is, they typically don't support using other peoples' money (taxation) to do so. Remember, too, that Florida is a rather liberal state to be a part of the southeast.

Same answer as above, although New Jersey is pretty liberal.

The 1938 idea of a minimum wage is old and tired, also. Once again, we have the government holding a gun to a business owner's head and telling him the price of his labor.

The US Chamber of Commerce wants millions more Hispanics imported into the country to lower the price of labor. They seem to have the cooperation of the entire Democrat Party on this issue of bringing in more low-cost labor.

Then in an attempt to put lipstick on the bulldog the Democrats are calling up 1938 and talking about something that cannot be done in light of the current labor market.

How can you pay illegals $15 per hour? The purpose of the US Chamber of Commerce is to lower all wages and the Democrats cannot call for more illegals and a wage increase both at the same time. The US Chamber of Commerce has taken that 1938 option away from the Democrats and Obama just again indicated that he agrees with the US Chamber of Commerce in calling for more illegals.
