Our class has been using quarterlies published by a church, and is switching to that published by the convention.

Some are saying convention material now is very young earth creationist. Is this true?

Others are saying it has taken a hard Calvinist turn. Also, is this true?

Yes you will find that it support creationism. No you will not find that God refuses to offer grace to some.

As to the Calvinist issue, the Gospel Project is basically a Calvinist SS material. It has a lot of good stuff in it, but I have found it too reformed for use in our church.

We just finished up one study in the Gospel Project we were disappointed in the quality of it. I would go as far as seeing that it seemed kind of worldly. I am so glad that it decided not to use this material.

Lifeway has three series of Sunday School materials: "Explore the Bible", "Bible Studies for Life" and "The Gospel Project." I know very little about The Gospel Project. I am familiar with Explore the Bible and Bible Studies for Life and would recommend both of them. I have not detected a Calvinistic agenda in these materials. If it is there, it is very subtle.

    Thanks!

RevMitchell, you do I presume know that it is possible to support or affirm creationism without supporting or affirming YOUNG EARTH creationism?

There is lots of good and bad when it comes to SS material. Usually the best you can do is agree most of the time. Find some authors you like and expand from there. Lifeway will please you one week and disappoint you the next, just like almost every other SS material out there.

I don't use Lifeway because they use the BF&M 2000 as the basis for their writing, which I disagree with, but if you know that going in and are in agreement, have at it I guess.

Of note, there are cheaper options out there if that is a concern.
