Been readin' a book. Yep..., sure have..., and here some of you thought I was just another pretty face in the crowd.

Well, the author describes the dimensions of the New Jerusalem as being like a cube, as we have read in the Bible. Fifteen hundred miles but have you ever wondered the total base area? Two point two five (2.25) million square miles at it's base! Wow.

Needless to say that's gonna be a pretty big city. With these dimensions there would be enough space for everyone who ever lived since the creation.

Would someone like to work the formula to check for accuracy?

I'd propose that a city in the shape of a cube of about 1,500 miles suggests a symbolic interpretation.

The New Jerusalem is the Church.

Years ago I heard the late, great Dr. Adrian Rogers preaching on the subject of the New Jerusalem----he was setting the stage for the dimensions-----went something like this:

    1500 miles wide

    1500 miles long

    1500 miles high

And friend, that's just the capital city!!!!!

    Here's the scripture: Revelation 21:2
A couple of interesting things to throw out for discussion:

John saw the New Jerusalem coming down OUT OF HEAVEN.

Is this New Jerusalem the eternal dwelling place for believers?
It does not appear to be in heaven.
Then John says it's prepared as a bride. Does this mean that it IS the bride, or just like a bride?

In an earlier post, Aaron says it's the bride, which he says is the church (I assuming he means all the saved of all time).. But John doesn't say it's the bride. He says it's LIKE the bride? Is that significant?

    Here's the next first--21:3
Note that it does not say that man's dwelling place is with God. Does this reinforce v 22? Does it mean that the "new heaven" is on the "new earth?"

Can a case be made that the eternal dwelling place with God is on a re-constituted earth?

That fact that Revelation has so much symbolism can make it interesting trying to figure out which is literal and which is symbolic.

    Okay scholars, have at it.

Death will be "swallowed up in victory"------same way with the all things new earth!!! The old Earth(where you and I reside) will be swallowed up in victory as well by Heaven where the invisible God dwells!!:type::love2::love2: Old Earth will be made new----Creation---that Adam and Eve lost in sin--will be made new---will be "born again" capable of being inhabited for all eternity----instead of running out of resources(ex. crude oil, even the Sun that shines 93,000,000 miles away is running---burning itself out) New Earth(which is really the old made new) fit for eternity---will house resources that are eternal!! We will be Heaven dwellers---and at the same time be Earth dwellers---God's will will be done ON EARTH AS IT IS BEING DONE IN HEAVEN----HEAVEN WILL NOT BE SEPERATED FROM EARTH NOR EARTH SEPERATED FROM HEAVEN-----for all eternity!!!!

“The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits thick.” (Revelation 21:16–17, NIV)
In some translations they convert the Greek numbers into modern terms which actually hides the symbolism and rather than clarify the text, it muddies it.

There were 12 tribes of Israel, there were 12 apostles, among many other mentions of 12 in the text – 12 seems to be a number connected with human governmental order. In center of the city is the throne of God.

The city was a cube – meaning there were 12 sides, each side 12,000 stadia (slightly less than 1,500 miles). The wall was 144 cubits thick (12 times 12). Gates are named after the tribes of Israel; the foundations after the apostles.
The idea is that there will be lots and lots of believers (both of the old covenant and of the new covenant) in this city.

This isn't the heaven many Christians think they will be in when they are resurrected, this is the new earth- Eden reformed. Our promise of life everlasting with God.
