How many apples must we see before we know that the tree which bore it is an apple tree?

Only one of course, no matter how big or how small the apple.

Scripture speaks of greater and lessor sins, so we shouldn't confuse individual sins with Sin (our sinful, rebellious nature which separates us from God). But I don't believe that we can categorize the levels of sin (except what Jesus has already said of the subject) so I am not sure of the validity of the article. But the author is correct that some sins warrant a greater condemnation.

There are many different manifestations of sin and I think he is confusing various manifestations with "levels."

Sin is rebellion against God. The sinful nature is a STATE or CONDITION of rebellion against God. Manifest sins are manifest acts of rebellion against God.

There are sins that are greater than other sins either due to God's sovereign determination (The sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit; the mark of the beast; sin unto death, etc.) or due to greater extent of that sin (e.g. attitude becoming an action or an action that extends beyond self-harm - fornication, murder, etc.).

    In a word - consequence.

Some expressions of the human sin nature have greater consequence than others.

This article is defective from the get go. It only gets worse as he starts with a false foundation. His opening RC idea of mortal and venial sin is without biblical support as even unintentional sins had to be atoned for.
