A late challenger to House Speaker John Boehner has emerged in the 11th hour as lawmakers gather to address their first order of business.

Florida Rep. Daniel Webster, who served as speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, has emerged as a viable opponent to current Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, just one hour before lawmakers elect a new top Republican.

I know Daniel Webster personally and I know he is a godly man without compromise and would be a very good House leader.

Given "Rev"Mitchell's rabid hatred of anyone who holds to Reformed theology, I see no reason to believe he could evaluate Godliness at all.

You don't get it. Its not the reformed theology it is the attitude of the reformed. Much like this post right here that I am responding too.

I agree with you. He is a godly man who teaches SS at an SBC church outside of Orlando. He preaches expositionally and knows and loves the lord and His Word.

Actually it is in Orlando or its Suburb. I used to go to church with him. It is the church where I was mentored in ministry and licensed.

(Washington, DC) – Representative Daniel Webster (FL-10) issued the following statement regarding this afternoon’s election for Speaker of the House of Representatives:

“This afternoon, several Members of the Republic Conference voted for me to be Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. I am humbled by their confidence in me as a leader who would articulate and execute a principled agenda at such a critical time for our party, system of government and nation.

“To be sure, my candidacy and vote was not a vote against personalities, policies or even John Boehner. It was a vote for initiating a process that I know can produce sound public policy for the people who sent us to Washington on their behalf.

“As I have shared with the leadership team, I will continue to advocate for a more open, Member-driven and productive process, one that places principle above power. The process by which we have come to legislate as elected representatives of the people has become flawed, and a flawed process will always produce a flawed product.

“I offer my sincerest congratulations to Speaker Boehner on his re-election as Speaker of the House. He is a personal friend who I have come to know and admire during my tenure in the House and I pledge to work alongside him. With leadership elections behind us, and a willing partner in the Senate, our conference is united in reforming the way Washington works, opening up our government and advancing pro-growth, principled solutions.”

Florida Republican Reps. Dan Webster and Richard Nugent have lost their spots on the House Rules Committee. A spokesman for the panel confirmed Webster and Nugent’s departures but didn’t elaborate on the circumstances.

House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) did not express opposition to forcing two members off of his committee. Sessions, who supported Boehner's candidacy, said the conference needed to reconcile after the "open fight" on the House floor.

"Our conference is going to find a way to get together, talk and heal itself, and it's going to take us some time," Sessions said.
The powerful Rules Committee controls how legislation is considered on the floor, with members appointed directly by the Speaker.

Webster ran against Boehner on Tuesday and attracted 12 votes, more than any of the other alternative candidates for Speaker. Nugent voted for Webster.

    Nugent told The Hill he

was informed he was losing the committee assignment after the Speaker vote. The congressman declined to comment further until he had a chance to talk with Boehner.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who backed Webster for Speaker, accused Boehner of using “intimidation tactics.”

“Boehner kicked Webster and Nugent off Rules Committee 4 voting against Boehner. No room for intimidation tactics. I stand w/them,” King tweeted.
