    I was just wondering

If you are a pastor/pulpiteer-----how far do you allow yourself with certain audible lingo??

For instance-----I like watching the famed boys of Duck Dynasty----but have "somewhat" against them in their use of the word

    CRAP!!

To me----if you use that word----you might as well use the "other" word that it implies---but yet---the show is filled with the use of the word

To which I've wondered-----how far do you go in your pulpit lingo

    Do you use the word-----HECK!!! As in "I don't give a heck about . . . !"

I've listened to many pulpiteers and unedited versions of slang and have said to myself

    "Wow!! I don't believe I would have used THAT particular word to describle . . . !"

What slang is allowable to you(as a pulpiteer) and what do you(as a regular church listener) hear coming from the pulpiteer's pulpit vocabulary lately!!???

I don't care for the use of the word pulpiteer. It has become a derogatory word used by the house church movement to condemn preaching.

I do not allow any use of words like in the op. It serves no purpose and only becomes a distraction from the message.

    Honestly never thought about it.

My rule of thumb would be, if I wouldn't say it in front of my grandmother, I would say it from the pulpit.

Certainly didn't mean to "ruffle" any feathers in the use of the word---pulpiteer, Rev!!!

I use the word as anyone would use the word "Trumpeter" ----a Pulpiteer is God's "Trumpeter"-------his preaching is to give the sound/blast of a trumpet!!!-------you don't use a Clarinet to wake up the ones who are sleeping-----you use a trumpet, don't you??? Clarinets are useful to lull listeners to sleep--------too many preachers give off the sound of a clarinet when they need to be giving off the sound of a trumpet!!! Thus---God's Trumpiter----God's Pulpiter!!! In my honest opinion-----house churches give off the peep squeak of a clarinet!!!!

    See what I mean??

Just stay away from the Mark Driscoll/Ergun Caner manner of speaking and you'll be good to go.

I was banned from here for two years for daring to pointing out that a protected poster went after my children.

When I came back, I was shocked to learn that there are actually people here who will defend Caner.

I am extremely fundamental in doctrine, but I have become very liberal in practice. Too many pastors today are out of touch with the real world. A pastor is not a college professor. Many preachers need to loosen up and just be real. The lost world relates to real. They do not relate to tradition.

Unfortunately, too many pastors today have become pulpiteers. The desire to be a shepherd and a servant of the flock is a rare trait in the modern church.

Hey, Reynolds, in order for your post to be "very true" you're going to need some facts. You know what they are don't you? They would look like some actual numbers of modern churches and number of pastors who have no desire to shepherd or serve the flock. In the absence of facts your second reply should read "Unfortunately, that post is very opinionated."

Now I don't have any data to the contrary but I do have significant anecdotal evidence to support what Revmitchell said. I can point out at least a dozen pastors right here on the BB that would spend themselves into the grave on behalf of their congregations, family and call of God on their lives. There are more than that on here but I can only share what I've observed. I can easily come up with twice that number within a twenty minute drive of where I am sitting right now.

I'm sorry you have such a low opinion of Godly men doing what they've been called to do for the glory of God and the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

On what information (data) are basing this premise? Perhaps the few "highly visible" mega church pastors, ....those with a mass media ministry? Or have you sat in on thousands of messages delivered by thousands of pastor/teachers across this nation and world.

Are you a pastor? A sheperd? Are you one of the rare ones?

Yep. To this day, she's never once apologized for attacking my children.
