Of coarse. Christians sin and as long as he repents of his sin his fellowship with God is okay (1 John). LS DOES NOT teach that christians do not sin, but it does teach that they can fall into sin, however they will return to the Lord always.

Explain... Christians do sin and can fall into sin for a season, but they will always repent and turn back to the Lord.

Christians can commit an act of sin.

The OP asked can a person be a LIAR.......and a Christian the answer is no. ALL LIARS GO INTO THE SECOND DEATH...Rev 22

if a person practices any sin to a point that sin characterizes them....a liar a murderer a thief a gossip.....they will perish because they have not been regenerated.

Christians lie all the time. They also get angry, steal, get drunk, lust et. al. They key is repentance and restoration. To sin with impunity, and without pang of conscience, is a dangerous thing. It could be the evidence of an unregenerate heart.

Are there situations where a lie is more desirable or kind than the truth?

    rev21

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

4 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
    rev22
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie........

Can you possibly name one ? What situation would cause you to lie, and think it's what God wants you to do ?

Weird. I agree with Evan and not Iconoclast. I guess it was bound to happen.

I might know of one. First though, a clarification--can there be a lie by silence?

A lie of omission ? Like when the x-ray tech can't tell the family about their kid's tumor and a doctor will be in contact ? I can actually see that.

I'm talking more of a misleading, active lie. One where you say or type something you know isn't true.

Whoa! You are so close to the scenario I have in mind. (Freaked.)

My elderly mother, who lives at home alone, is bored and lonely. With all that time on her hands she can get fixated on things. Recently my sister was diagnosed with skin cancer. Just a small spot that was removed. Rather than tell Mom and have her worry about it day and night we kept mum.

When I would visit Mom or call her on the phone she'd ask, "what's new?" I would never bring up my sister's condition. I felt kind of guilty about it, but figured it was for the greater good that she didn't know about it.

How many murders does a murderer need commit to be a murderer?

    Answer: Just one.

Translation: How many lies have we told, we are ALL liars.

If a person is a habitual liar he can't be a Christian.

Are you building your strawman? I don't see where he mentioned that God wanted him too.

Yeah, I guess it would be better to ignore God, if you're going to say it's OK to lie.
    /sarcasm

I don't build up anything, don't mince words, don't ask questions that people need to read twice. If I want to accuse him of something, then I will.

Why don't you let him answer the question, or even answer it yourself ?

Yes you do. Your very response to his post was nothing but accusatory, rather than simply asking for more information.

I try not to "mince" either Bro.

No I don't think it is acceptable, proper....et al to lie.

But I have....and I am sure I will.....just as I am sure you have and you will.

I guess you see an accusatory post. Oh well. You and I usually get along OK.

Nope, it is never what God wants you to do. That's my answer.
There could never be a Christian reason to lie to someone. Anyone saying different is lying.

And so in case that sounds accusatory, I offer up you all a peace-cyber-daisy.:flower:

    But back to the O/P.

Habitual sin is a tough one. You're supposed to have victory over this stuff. But I am of the opinion growth in Christians often gets stuck in neutral.
