There is a high probability that Freddie Gray was fatally injured by the rough ride the police gave him through the streets of Baltimore. I do not understand why any prisoner would ever be given a rough ride.

    What is the purpose?

Why would any prisoner ever be given a rough ride?

    It makes no sense.

Could be the suspect gave the cops a hassle during arrest.

NOT justifying - but could be their (would-never-admit) excuse*.

Whatever caused his injuries, I think we can all say police brutality is getting exposed. Sadly only the black victims get media attention.

Police unions have become too powerful. They act this way because they can.

It also has to do with police policies and what they allow to happen.

This type of activity has been going on long before there were any police unions.

I'm sorry but I don't think a healthy young man is going to have his back broken in a "rough ride".

Seems this man probably did. Also the Baltimore police department has been sued before and paid out millions of dollars for injuries resulting from rough rides.

Regardless, why a rough ride at all? It makes no sense.

I still am really skeptical. I've had friends who have been in unrestrained roll-overs and they did not break their backs or their necks. Broken bones, punctured lungs, lacerated spleens, head injuries, etc. they've had. But really, a healthy young man? Doubtful.

Just curious, how do you think he received his injuries that led to his death?

My guess is direct contact. I would say that something that the police did to him directly broke his back whether it was from slamming him into a car or the van or kicking him in the back. I don't know. I just really can't see another way this could have happened. I'm all for cops but in this case, the injuries just scream "direct abuse" to me.

Kevin Moore, a 28-year-old friend of Gray's from Gilmor Homes, said he rushed outside when he heard Gray was being arrested and saw him "screaming for his life" with his face planted on the ground. One officer had his knee on Gray's neck, Moore said, and another was bending his legs backward.

"They had him folded up like he was a crab or a piece of origami," Moore said. "He was all bent up."

No matter anything else happening, the world is a better place without Gray in it.

Now it seems he might have had spinal surgery in the week or so before his arrest. Now that makes more sense if he really did experience the "rough ride" as they say. That would NOT be a healthy young man and being tossed around in a vehicle would have damaged his spine further.

The history of lawsuits lost and millions of money paid by Baltimore seem to negate your argument.

What argument? Yes, people have been injured. How many have had severed spines and died? THAT is my argument. A healthy young man will not have his spine severed by being tossed around in a vehicle when it is driving. Yet if he had spinal surgery in the few weeks before, he could absolutely have experienced this kind of injury.
