I can't think of too many Americans that haven't viewed this scene since taking place on the first day of the Baltimore riots .... but I would like to know (because I have heard some underlying thoughts on this) if anyone thinks this was an act of "child abuse?"

And I wonder if any of you would do something similar should you discover your child having a hand in the destruction of property and being part of a riotous mob, gone wild in a senseless frenzy aimed at making a point?

Actually I did not read this on any socialist media sites. Because of my long career ties to social services especially child abuse prevention, I know a lot of folks in the field, and this is a debate going on in my circle of acquaintances.

I do not believe she abused the kid. Humiliated him bunches, but no abuse. :type: Shalom!

Imagine your child running towards heavy traffic. Your helpless to stop them. Imagine the hailstorm of emotions.

We went to Nags Head one year and my nieces and nephew were still young. My youngest niece was perhaps 7, and it was a choppy day. The beach was violent, and there was no getting in the water that day. Parked my vehicle on the beach, and set my cooler behind it and began cutting up cut-bait. I looked up in the truck and my niece looked over the seat at me and smiled. It wasn't forty-five seconds until I looked up again, and I didn't see my niece, and I can't remember if I called for her or not, but something didn't seem right, so I walked around my truck to see if she was laying on the seat.

    Nowhere to be seen.

Looked at the water first. Nothing. Looked up and down the beach. Nothing. Called my nephew and other niece and asked where she was, they didn't know. I looked at the water and the fear was overwhelming. I could imagine here at the edge and being dragged under, and held under. Sent my niece and nephew both ways to look for her, while I looked in the water.

After a few minutes, someone a ways down the beach, also parked, was walking in our direction, and went to talk to them and they said they saw her running in that direction down the beach after one of those puffy things kids put on their arms. I looked down the beach and here comes both nieces. I still tear up thinking about it, lol. I walked to meet them and despite the relief I felt I gave her a little whop on the butt and she busted out crying.

So I can imagine the fear of that mother. I can imagine her desire to preserve her son, and the truth is that in an environment like that...people die.

I applaud this mother and I hope the video embarrasses that kid into a different direction. I will gladly sign a petition, if some nitwit charges her with child abuse, that tells government it is not their right to tell a mother how to discipline her child.

The circumstances were dire, and I think the measures fit those circumstances.

    Proverbs 23:13-15

    King James Version (KJV)

13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

But it won't surprise me if someone goes after this woman...overlooking the violence of that day. How about the man who was hit in the face? Wonder if he will be charged?

    God bless.

    Spot on!!!
Too many have listened to people like Dr Spock (the Al Sharpton of parenting) and discipline has all but been abolished because we didn't want to destroy"Little Johnny's self-esteem"!

No this was not child abuse, he was no "child".

But one thing he has, he did not try to retaliate against his mother.

    God bless him for that.

Yes, God bless him for that.

When my kids were little, (my eldest is almost 40) I remember reading an article in the local paper from the South Dakota extension service. It equated spanking a child with child abuse.

The long war against God's word continues, even in conservative, but undiscerning, areas of the country, all bought and paid for with our tax dollars.

    Nope

No abuse! Just some good old fashion humiliation to a punk that deserved it.

Child abuse would have been allowing him to riot with the rest.
