If liberals actually exegeted the Bible instead of eisegeting it they would like it. For it does not actually meet their political goals.

Show us where the Bible does not support what Christ said in the OP.

The 'eradicating poverty' point is a great point. Sadly, most people overlook the end of Matthew 25. :(

Rev. we are talking belief in Christ and living as he taught. We are not talking politics.

As you are the critic, so far, it seems you do not like the OP and what Christ taught as it does not fit your politics.

Your eisegetical interpretation of what Jesus taught is pure Marxist politics.

This is an informal fallacy known as question begging.

They wouldn't have to "not like it" for long. Implement what is said this blog and we'd all have to learn Arabic in about three months.

So scare tactics trump the teachings of Christ, is that right?

Yes, you refuse to answer the question. Of course no one on the board is surprised by this.

If the teachings of Christ, as shown in the OP, are socialist, I guess that means Christ, in your book anyway, was a Socialist.

Tell you what Rev. I will side with Christ on issues like these.

    You mean this nonsensical question?

You make that make sense and I will answer it. Right now is is gibberish.

What is in the op is a misrepresentation of Christ.

No evidence of that as of yet in this thread or any other.

You and the blog writer have no problem freely using hyperbole.

So what about this Second Amendment? For your thesis to work you would have to make numerous assumptions:

    • Firearms and violence are synonymous.
    • Guns and hate are synonymous.
    • Gun ownership is ungodly.
    • Gun owners reject the teachings of Jesus Christ.
    • A nation must be never defend itself from enemies regardless of the enemy's intent.
    • An individual must never defend person or property.
    • All enemies must honor another nation's desire to be free of any violence.

Have you ever read the Second Amendment? It says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Let's talk about a well regulated militia. Israel had one. Do I need to list the verses throughout the Old Testament or can you look that up without help?

How about the New Testament? John the Baptist was sent to pave the way for the coming Jesus. Soldiers asked him what they should do. The OP should have him telling them to cease the ungodly participation in violence and love everybody. Here's John's response -

    Luke 3:14 NAS77
And some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."

Why would John purposely teach something contrary to what Jesus would teach?

Paul was either horribly defiant or brings clarity to what loving your enemies is realy saying.

    Romans 13:3-4 NAS77
    3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same;
4 for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.

Figurative language? I don't think so.

Was Augustine a war monger? Have you ever read his formulation of the Just War Doctrine? Here's a refresher for you.

the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Have you ever heard of sporting firearms? Did you know that 23.4 million firearm owners shoot at nothing other than paper targets? You can read the data here.

Digest this and we can talk some more.

Eradicating poverty ? Christ never gave such a command. Rather, he said it could not be done.

"For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor." But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you bother the woman? For she has done a good deed to Me. "For the poor you have with you always; but you do not always have Me.
