Ecumenical Sermon Coordination

    FBC Fountain Hills, Ariz. (SBC) yokes up with PC-USA, Evangelical Lutheran, etc. churches in town to preach the same messages each Sunday.

    See any red flags?

    Okay, call me old fashioned, call me whatever, but "in his or her own way" was one for me, lol.

    "Progressive Christianity." A good header for the ecumenical movement.

    I wonder if any Independent Baptists will preach?

    So basically 8 churches are going to cover the same topic (one that all believes to be important to the Church and their community)? If so, I have no problem with that. If, however, I am misunderstanding and each will preach in the other's pulpit to another's congregation....that's different.

    Apparently the churches in question are ganging up on the local UMC church, whose pastor, according to the FBC pastor, is teaching heresy.

    Here's some info from the Phoenix Business Journal:

    Rev. David Felten, pastor of the Fountains, a United Methodist Church, has this message for Christians everywhere: “Get over yourself.”
    “I say that over and over again,” he said. “Christianity has a lot to offer and a lot of credibility as long as it’s one of the world’s great religions. But as soon as you try to pass it off as the world religion, it can’t be taken seriously.”

    The Methodists also celebrated "Evolution Sunday" marking the birth of Charles Darwin.

    In that case....I can understand churches teaching their congregations and warning about false beliefs within their community. Otherwise it will not be long before they are in the church. Next year, of course, there will be 7 churches in stead of 8 as they target the Lutherans :smilewinkgrin:
