Is there an actual article somewhere that confirms this teacher actually said that?

It's been my observation that no matter how much money is spent on education, educators will always say they need more.

Here in Minnesota we consistently rank either #1 or #2 in high school graduation rates. The education budget has increased over 100% in the past 12 years or so. The teacher's union is clambering for more money, "to fix our problems".

You have to keep her words in context. They are paid on par with Finnish doctors.

I feel standardized testing should be abolished here. That leads to teaching to the test and not teaching in helping kids really learn.

Confirms what? That doctors don't get paid squat in Finland? Or that students get to goof off for an hour during the school day?

If it truly does lead to "teaching to the test" then the problem is unethical and/or lazy teachers and bad curriculum, not standardized testing.

Wait a minute that article talks about test scores.

Also, it is the teachers unions that do not like testing because it holds teachers accountable to do their jobs. This is a union thing not a student thing.

Interesting article. Not sure how an education system of a country of only 5 million people that is 98% white - and 80% Lutheran - applies to the US.

Does anyone remember Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign promise to do away with the Department of Education?

The folks at the DOEd did.

Their answer: Put out the A Nation At Risk
    publication.

ANAR certainly pointed out the massive failure of our public school systems [And that was some 30+ yrs ago!].

Now, I have great respect for Mr. Reagan as POTUS. Moreover, I admire the individual efforts of born-again Christian teachers/administrators in our public schools---a very necessary "mission field" indeed.

But, as good as all these people may be, they seem to be no match for the deeply-entrenched DOEd bureaucrats whose mantra is always: "We need/must have MORE money!!"

Well, the DOEd's budget has consistently been increased regardless of who or what party controls the Executive Branch.

Obviously, more money hasn't helped very much, and, IMHO, probably it never will.

As I see it, it will only be when the "Greatest 'Teacher' Of All" is in control will there ever be real educational reform.

"Even so, come, Lord Jesus" (Rev. 22:20).
