Read Luke 24: 13-35 then tell me how you interpret it. Taking this point into consideration: do you think that the writer of Luke would waste valuable space and valuable writing material writing about a mere dinner/supper break ?

No, and it is obvious (IMHO) that this was far from a waste of time. As you know, I am a Baptist (so I hold this as a valuable passage...alongside the rest of Scripture as a whole). Why? Do you know of a group who holds this to be such a waste of space?

I will bite ... what is your point?

In Luke 24 Christ goes out of His way "HIDE HIS PRESENCE" from His followers to get them to "focus on the sola scriptura point" being made.

    Luke 23

13 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
17 And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”
18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?”
19 And He said to them, “What things?”
So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. 21 But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. 22 Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. 23 When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. 24 And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see.”
25 Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” 27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, “Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them.
30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.
32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”

That meal was not a communion service nor was it a celebration of the Lord's death or resurrection. The two walking did not YET know that it was Christ nor were they celebrating passover "again".

35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.
36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
40 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. 41 But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?” 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. 43 And He took it and ate in their presence.

Notice that nothing they had done up to this point was "celebrating" the Lord's resurrection - for they were still supposing Christ not to have been risen until this appearance in Jerusalem. Only a few would have known prior to that. The group was still in disbelief according to the text until Christ appeared in Jerusalem to all of them.

44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

No. You have a history if ignoring Scripture, twisting them to suit a doctrine, and deriving a meaning foreign not only to the text but also from the original audience. I've enjoyed some of our conversations, but it would be wrong for me to continue as if we had the same Father and Spirit.

I shouldn't have even answered your "yes/no" question (it was pride on my part), and for that I apologize. My response has to be:

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7)

If there is such a time as you repent from the RCC and turn towards God, then please PM me and we may have a fruitful discussion. Until then you are in my prayers.

Oh, my stars, this is one of my favorite passages in the whole Bible.

And the very last thing it's about is a dinner break.

Here's my take and here's what I have taught to 6th graders in Christian schools and adults in Sunday School.

[1] These guys were going in the wrong direction and trying to reason from their own minds what happened.. They were leaving Jerusalem. Maybe they lived in Emmaus and were coming back from Passover or some such, I don't know, but all I know is that the other group, the women, never took their eyes off of Jesus. They watched Him suffer and beaten, they watched Him die, they watch the two men bury Him, and they were going to anoint Him. They kept their eyes ON Him. They didn't try to internalize it and discuss it to death and reason it all out. They just kept their eyes on Him - even in death. Even Peter and John who really didn't believe the women ran TOWARDS the grave. Even though it was all confusing and hard to comprehend, they kept their focus literally on Jesus. Cleopas and his group were, for whatever justifiable reason, were going in the wrong direction.

[2] Cleopas knows a lot about Jesus and tells much, but he personally claimed not to have ran to the empty to investigate for himself. He is relying on his own knowledge and not faith.

[3] And here's the point. Even if they had not seen the empty tomb, the scriptures from Genesis through Malachi point to the Jesus. Why did they not know that. Jesus, Himself, has to teach that to them. He goes point by point through the entire scriptures. How I ENVY those men. To be taught the scriptures by the Author, Himself.

[4] And finally, after Jesus left them, they said, "Didn't our hearts burn as He taught us the scriptures and talked to us on the road.". Does our heart burn for Jesus. Do we allow a "fire, shut up in our bone" to flame when we read the Bible and pray? We should.

 This is one of my favorites as well. I couldn't even imagine the joy of being there and hearing Jesus walk them through God's redemptive history as recorded in Scripture. Of course now this is something that we can do. It is ironic that Lakeside brings up this particular verse.

Many years ago I recall hearing a message on this passage entitled "God's Cure for Heart Burn."

Very good points listed there. Still it is interesting that Jesus "hides his presence" from them to give them time to "focus on scripture" because in the end they will need to give a "sola scriptura" presentation of the Gospel and why it had to be the way it was.

    I find that "instructive". :)

BTW - nice to see you here on this board as well.

    in Christ,

    Bob
