.....funeral message be in this scenario:

In a very small rural community, the small daughter of a "confirmed agnostic" couple is tragically killed in a hit-and-run car accident.

The 22 YO driver is the drunken son of a deacon in the church over which you pastor.

Since you are the only "preacher" available at the time, what would you tell the assembled audience that would include several of this couples' "confirmed agnostic" friends/relatives?

I'm running out but hubby will never prescribe where a person is going but he gives the clear Gospel so the people there at the funeral know where they are going.

I'm surprised they let you in the door...more surprised that you are allowed to conduct a sermon....But since you are, preach the gospel. Take yourself out of the equation....And take the thought out that they, the agnostics, are judging you.

I hope E,W & F you're using the generic sense of "you" because I was never called to preach, and after almost 50 years in God's family, I seriously doubt He'll ever do so......"Teach" is what I enjoy doing, especially when it comes to urging consistent integrity in one's "witness" to others---Something WPE3BQL is still sorely lacking!!

Hope and pray you don't turn it into a bloody temperance speech. It was bad behavior pure and simple....ie SIN.

I still have to control my TEMPER!

Actually I've been a member of a couple churches who insist that the communion cup be alcoholic wine, and also ones that say to even think about using anything but grape juice is practically grounds for heresy.

One church I was a member of, has a deacon who's from Denmark (i.e., a Scandinavian) and runs a chain of their kind of furniture. Back home, and this is basically true for most all of continental Europe, they think nothing about having wine with a meal any more than we here in the USA would think about enjoying coffee and/or iced tea.

When this man visits his relatives back home, he drinks wine.

When he's here in the USA, he drinks (at least for public communion) grape juice.

Is he being inconsistent? Is he a hypocrite?

Well, I prefer the Judge of All Earth to decide that one.

    - Just as they brought that boy school work that encouraged him, I bring you this message to give you the hope of the future as well.
    Conclusion:
    - Ralph before he went to be with the Lord and also now as he is in heaven did and does want his Lord to be glorified in his passing.
    - While this is a time of mourning it is also a time to know that Ralph is with our Lord
