Did this mother deserve jail time

    Seems like fraud against the taxpayers to me.

    It sounds like she did break the law. Jail time seems excessive, though.

    I think noting the children's address and a small fine would have been sufficient.

    I'm conflicted on this because, as an advocate of school choice and of competition, I completely understand why she did it.

    But by going to another district where she didn't pay property taxes (I'm going on the assumption that it works the same in Ohio as it does here), she's stealing services.

    Personally, if I were the school, I would have something available where out of district families could pay tuition, as if the school was a private school.

    I taught at the secondary level for several years and I know some schools do this, but I'm not sure how things work in Ohio.

    She tried to do the right thing, went about it the wrong way, and ran up against a government with "little dog syndrome".

    Exactly.

    Parents of super star high school athletes do it all the time. School districts don't seem to mind accepting their kids.

    Actually former NFL player Tim Green became a HS coach in the Salt City area. He was accused of "drafting" players from other schools. He ended up resigning as the Head Coach. He is now back as a full time lawyer.
