    http://www.ligonier.org/blog/john-calvins-6-reasons-why-we-should-evangelize/

There are many reasons why we must evangelize. John Calvin offers the following:

    1. God commands us to do so. “We should remember that the gospel is preached not only by the command of Christ but at his urging and leading.”

    2. We want to glorify God. True Christians yearn to extend God’s truth everywhere so that “God may be glorified.”

    3. We want to please God. Calvin writes, “It is a sacrifice well-pleasing to God to advance the spread of the gospel.”

    4. We have a duty to God. “It is very just that we should labor… to further the progress of the gospel,” Calvin says. He adds, “It is our duty to proclaim the goodness of God to every nation.”

    5. We have a duty to our fellow sinners. Our compassion should be intensified by knowing that “God cannot be sincerely called upon by others than those to whom, through the preaching of the gospel, his kindness and gentle dealings have become known.”

    6. We are grateful to God. We owe it to God to strive for the salvation of others; if we do not, we are behaving in a contradictory manner. Calvin says, “Nothing could be more inconsistent concerning the nature of faith than that deadness which would lead a man to disregard his brethren, and to keep the light of knowledge… in his own breast.”

    A Dose Of Sarcasm

He could not possibly have said those six things. It runs completely counter to the anti-Calvinistic narrative we often find on the BB. He could not possibly have been evangelistically-minded. He sounds too biblical there. It will upset the applecart of the synergists here.

When you start quoting Calvin, someone will eventually say, well Calvin wasn't a Calvinist. The "real Calvinists" believe this or that. I would be surprised of there is a single Calvin dissenter that has actually read his institutes on this forum. They just repeat Dave Hunt's claims.

It is posts like this that inhibit any chance of reasonable discussion on these issues. By the way this has nothing to do with the op. Nothing in the op about so called "Calvin dissenters".

    That's a big 10-4.
That's right. A mod here uses Dave as his constant source. And Mr. Hunt was as unreliable as it comes on this subject. On James White's Dividing Line show Hunt expressed his ignorance of the Reformers. He came back six months later and claimed he knew more about the subject than most Calvinists.

Does any non-Calvinist disagree with any of the six propositions stated in the OP?

No, but the absence of any scripture is bothersome.

What in my OP had anything to do with the Cal vs armin debate?

Nothing, but the reliance on commentary rather than scripture disregards the distinctive of scripture alone as the final authority for faith and practice. In the Light was spot on!

Just predicting where this thread will go. Calvin is a 4 letter word here.

    Who said anything about Arminianism???

*no one on this board claims to be Arminian anyway.

** of course you quoted from book on a Introduction to Calvinism in your OP. So, the OP made it about Calvinism.

While it is nice to have the scriptures really included.....Sometimes when you have theological statements posted it can be useful to see if you can supply the verses to support the statement.
Can you see any verses that fit...such as mt28....or Col 3. For example?

Then you can determine if the writer was biblically based.in his thoughts.

Why not rely on scripture alone, rather than the interpretation of an uninspired person.

Are we not to teach what Jesus commanded? Or what an uninspired man suggested?
