Dutch Plan Tougher Asylum Policy As Migrants Flock To Europe

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - As Europe grapples with its biggest wave of migration since World War Two, the Netherlands is about to toughen its asylum policy by cutting off food and shelter for people who fail to qualify as refugees.

Failed asylum seekers would be limited to "a few weeks'" shelter after being turned down, if they do not agree to return home. They would then either be deported or sent away to fend for themselves.

(CNSNews.com) – U.S. Ambassador Brett McGurk said that 17,000 Syrian refugees have applied to enter the U.S. and that the nation will likely take in “more” of them next year.

“We took in about 1,500 last year. We think we’ll take in more next year,” McGurk, who serves as the deputy special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, said Sunday on Meet the Press with Chuck Todd.

McGurk’s comments came in response to Todd’s question about whether the U.S. would increase the number of refugees it takes in from Syria.

I wonder if McGurk ever pondered the idea of actually hitting "ISIS" uninterrupted supply lines coming out of NATO Turkey to counter "ISIS"? Or that maybe we should demand our "allies" in Saudi Arabia stop funding and arming them? But then that might help the Assad regime stay in power. Can't have that. Washington needs "ISIS" to do all the dirty work of regime change in Syria.

The Latest: EU eyes legal action for migration violations

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — The latest developments as tens of thousands of migrants flood into countries across Europe. All times local (CET):

5:30: p.m.

The European Union has threatened several EU countries with legal action for failing to properly apply the bloc's laws for asylum seekers.

EU migration spokeswoman Natasha Bertaud said Tuesday that official letters were sent which constitute the European Commission's "last warning before opening further infringement proceedings."

Bertaud declined to name the countries targeted from the 28-nation bloc but confirmed the move involved at least 10 countries.

It includes countries that do not properly fingerprint asylum-seekers, fail to respect migrant rights or procedures on who should qualify for protection, and those with substandard reception conditions. The Commission has already opened 32 legal cases against EU countries over asylum laws.

REFUGEES FROM US-SAUDI SPONSORED SYRIAN WAR FLOOD INTO EUROPE

Germany expects 800,000 refugees this year, up from 200,000 last year. More than 4 million more wait to enter Europe from camps in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon.

On September 1 German Labor Minister Andrea Nahles said German tax payers will pay 1.8 billion to 3.3 billion euros ($2 billion to $3.7 billion) to cover the cost of social benefits, language courses and refugee integration into the labor market.

In 2016, the German government expects and additional 240,000 to 460,000 people to be eligible for benefits. The figure is expected to exceed a million by 2019.

On Sunday German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on other European Union countries to accept more refugees.

“If Europe has solidarity and we have also shown solidarity towards others, then we need to show solidarity now,” she said. “Everything must move quickly.”

In June, Merkel criticized Germans who protested the influx of Arab refugees.

The UN high commissioner for refugees has called on the European Union to admit up to 200,000 refugees as part of a mass relocation programme that would be binding on EU states.

Hidden Origins of Syria’s Civil War

Exclusive: In the early months of the Syrian civil war, the West’s mainstream media presented the conflict as a simple case of good-guy protesters vs. bad-guy government, but the conflict was more complicated than that and the one-sided version only made matters worse, writes Jonathan Marshall.

Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, nearly a quarter million people have perished and fully half of the country’s inhabitants have been forced from their homes, creating the worst refugee crisis in the past quarter century. Meanwhile, the continuing advance of brutal Islamist factions — which a leading CIA officer in 2013 termed the “top current threat to U.S. national security” — makes the chances of restoring peace and human rights seem more remote than ever.

Many parties are to blame, but certainly among them are interventionists in the United States and its allies who rationalized supporting the Islamist opposition — and refusing to embrace serious peace negotiations — on the grounds that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is a uniquely evil dictator. That image of Assad grew directly out of his regime’s brutal response to civilian protests that began in early 2011, soon after the start of the Arab Spring.

But the convention wisdom — that “the protest movement in Syria was overwhelmingly peaceful until September 2011” — is wrong, or at best incomplete. In fact, opposition to the government had turned violent almost from the start, and was likely aimed at provoking a harsh reaction to polarize the country.

Although nothing justifies the myriad crimes committed by state forces then and since, facts ignored by most media and government accounts suggest that responsibility for the horrors in Syria is widely shared. The facts undercut the rationale behind inflexible demands for “regime change” from Western and Gulf leaders that closed the door on serious negotiations and opened the way to mass slaughter and the rise of today’s Islamist-dominated opposition.

‘Refugees’ Arrive in Munich – What’s The Endgame?

Watching live footage of the “refugees” arriving in Munich, it is difficult not to be struck by how non refugee-like they look. Many are well shod in expensive-looking western sneakers, wearing Adidas and other western name-brand clothing, fingering their smart phones. Mostly men of, as they say, fighting age. What few women we do see appear mostly fashionably dressed with healthy and happy looking babies.

It is de rigueur at the moment to express unconditional sympathy for those currently streaming in to Europe from, we are told, mostly Syria, to the point where it is probably risky to even entertain questions about the “rest of the story.” Indeed, I have been among the first to write sympathetically about their plight and to lay the blame on the disastrous US-and-allies foreign policy of regime change. But it is hard to avoid this strange feeling that on many fronts this story is not exactly as it is being covered in the western mainstream media.

Hajdukovo, Serbia: A Pakistani identity card in the bushes, a Bangladeshi one in a cornfield. A torn Iraqi driver's licence bearing the photo of a man with a Saddam-style moustache, another one with a scarfed woman displaying a shy smile.

Documents scattered only metres from Serbia's border with Hungary provide evidence that many of the migrants flooding Europe to escape war or poverty are scrapping their true nationalities and likely assuming new ones, just as they enter the European Union.

Muslim “refugees” in Budapest chanted “Allahu Akbar” and “f**k you” while others in Italy attacked an old lady and threw feces at bystanders as Germany announced that it would be prepared to take 500,000 asylum seekers every year.

Engineered Refugee Crisis to Justify "Safe Havens" in Syria
