When Mario Meza-Rodriguez was five years old, his parents brought him into the United States illegally. By the time he was an adult, he managed to get in trouble with the police after getting into a bar fight two years ago. When the police arrested him, they discovered a .22 caliber pistol in his pocket. Even though illegal aliens can’t own firearms under federal law, Meza-Rodriguez argued in court that charging him for possessing the pistol would violate his Second Amendment rights. The court disagreed. He was convicted and deported.

However, the 7th Circuit Court has recently ruled in Mario’s favor, while also upholding his conviction. They believe that the words “the people” in the Second Amendment, apply to everyone in the US, including illegal aliens.

The 2nd amendment does not bestow the right of self-defense on us. That right is a natural right bestowed by nature (and nature's God) as a function of life.

The court made the right decision (for the wrong reason).

"Self defense" does not appear to be an issue in the case or the decision.

Self defense is the prima facie reason for the possession of a firearm.

Up until the Patriot Act anyone inside the United States was protected by the Bill of Rights.

Anyone with an IQ greater than his hat size realizes it is understood. Guns rights are protected for the purpose of defense of self, others, our community, state, and nation. If you don't understand that you need to go back to 4th grade civics class.

So since it's not mentioned in the article, the case, nor the ruling, you have to make your statement stand up with insults.

    Got it.

I understand now that no one ever carries a gun to use offensively.

Really didn't know that, so thanks for the info.

What part of "Guns rights are protected for the purpose of defense of self, others, our community, state, and nation" didn't you understand?

The court found that the possession of a firearm by a person in this country without proper documentation was a protected enumerated right. It is obvious from the ruling that the person was not charged with a disqualifying felony (other than the false charge of illegally possessing a firearm).
