Nothing wrong with publicly professing your faith and obedience to Christ.

Best wishes on your marriage, and the Baptism ceremony.

And of course, you know that this will likely raise questions as to your infant baptism (as to whether it was baptism or Christening, what faith it was performed by, et cetera). As well as your view towards Christian Baptism, as to whether you do or do not impose a salvific connotation to it. So might not be a bad idea just to head those issues off with a statement as to your understanding of what Christian Baptism means. I would be curious to know your views.

That's great! Hopefully, many of your family members will attend and you won't get any backlash from them. It's a great way for them to have Biblical baptism explained to them.

Being sprinkled as an infant doesn't count. I was raised Lutheran so I was sprinkled as a baby, then had believer's baptism when I was 13 years old (about 5 months after I was saved.) I find it ironic that Lutherans point to this verse to support infant baptism:

Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

They totally misinterpret the "washing of regeneration" part to mean water baptism and totally ignore the "not by works of righteousness" part. Really, how is having SOMEONE ELSE baptized without their knowledge NOT an attempt at a work of righteousness?

Then getting married? You are starting out your new life in Christ and on the right path. Congratulations.

My church has always taught that baptism should be conscious, fully informed move, since that's what your initial salvation was. Congratulations for being willing to make it a public witness.

 

One of the most special baptism I was involved in was my own, after years of trying to live on my infant sprinkling! The other was baptizing my wife after she gave her life to Jesus, and decided to be baptized! Mind you, she was saved a few months after our marriage, and it took her a few years to decide to make the plunge, so to speak!

Congrats Sean on your decision to be baptized along with your fiancee! That must have been a neat, blessed experience!

We pray for you so that you may understand the meaning of baptism. You must be ready to go through many temptations and make sure that a word of prayer is the only shield. You must encourage each other and join church adult groups so that you may learn how to live as grownups.
