This past Friday at one o'clock in the morning, 18 Senate Republicans joined all of the Democrats in voting to bust the budget caps and to completely suspend the national debt limit until March of 2017.

These Republicans, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), surrendered to President Obama and gave him an unlimited credit card for the remaining 15 months of his term.
    1. Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
    2. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)
    3. John Barrasso (R-WY)
    4. Shelley Moore-Capito (R-WV)
    5. Thad Cochran (R-MS)
    6. Susan Collins (R-ME)
    7. John Cornyn (R-TX)
    8. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
    9. Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
    10. Mark Kirk (R-IL)
    11. John McCain (R-AZ)
    12. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
    13. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
    14. Pat Roberts (R-KS)
    15. Mike Rounds (R-SD)
    16. John Thune (R-SD)
    17. Thom Tillis (R-NC)
    18. Roger Wicker (R-MS)
This debt vote is significant because it is the 20th time in the past 10 months that the new Republican majority allowed a bill to pass that was supported by a majority of Democrats and opposed by a majority of Republicans.

If you didn't know otherwise, you would think the Democrats still controlled the Senate. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was right when he said McConnell is "the most effective Democratic leader in modern times."

It's no surprise that a new Gallup poll found that more Republican voters now view McConnell unfavorably (35%) than view him favorably (30%). Republicans are beginning to see that he doesn't share their values.

Senator McConnell has broken so many promises and betrayed the party's core principles so often that more Democrats now approve of the Republican-controlled Congress (13%) than Republicans (9%).

All of this is causing many Senate Republicans to question McConnell's leadership. Rather than looking out for their political interests, he continues to pressure them to support unpopular liberal legislation.

Strange we don't see those 18 republicans wearing arm slings. They couldn't have resisted that much.

Don't get your hopes up over Cruz the PTB that don't care much for people who threaten them with the constitution.

It is even worse than that. The bill allows Congress to steal $150 billion from the Social Security Trust Fund. I guess the "lock box" wasn't well enough locked to keep the thieves in DC from raiding it yet again.

And yet, they are Republicans, hence 'not Democrats', and will have no problem getting the votes of the 'religious right' on voting day. Republican have it made in that regard.

The old learned helplessness strikes again. What happens when there's no longer a lesser of the two evils? What''ll we do then?

Regarding the OP. There is a huge difference between raising the dept ceiling and changing the budget. Not the same thing at all.

So does that mean you're going with Rand Paul in the primaries?

No. He has little to no chance of getting the nomination. As of right now it looks like I will vote for Ted Cruz.

If everyone has that tude, you're right, he has little chance. I won't go with Cruz in the primary because of his interventionist foreign policy and I question his genuineness as some others do. A while back polls were showing that Paul stands the best chance against Hillary Clinton.

He'd be a dandy to start WW3. But Armageddon has to begin somewhere, right?

....and deja vu for the birthers.

WWIII doesn't need any help getting started. Putin is already rattling the thermonuclear sword - they have something called Tsar Bomba - 60 megatons (Hiroshima A-bomb was 15 kilotons) of TNT.

Russia's H-bomb has been determined to be able to blow a hole of total destruction 34 miles across.

If you want to see a film of a test detonation its attached to the end of the movie "Dr Strangelove".

    Sweet dreams.
