A Palestinian poet and leading member of Saudi Arabia’s nascent contemporary art scene has been sentenced to death for renouncing Islam.

Fayadh, 35, a key member of the British-Saudi art organisation Edge of Arabia, was originally sentenced to four years in prison and 800 lashes by the general court in Abha, a city in the south-west of the ultraconservative kingdom, in May 2014.

But after his appeal was dismissed he was retried last month and a new panel of judges ruled that his repentance did not prevent his execution.

Fayadh’s supporters believe he is being punished by hardliners for posting a video online showing the religious police (mutaween) in Abha lashing a man in public. “Some Saudis think this was revenge by the morality police,” said Kareem.

The case highlights the tensions between hardline religious conservatives and the small but growing number of artists and activists who are tentatively pushing the boundaries of freedom of speech in Saudi Arabia, where cinema is banned and there are no art schools.

    – From the Guardian article: Saudi Court Sentences Poet to Death for Renouncing Islam

If ISIS had sentenced an internationally renowned poet to death on trumped up charges of “renouncing Islam,” it would be highlighted endlessly across Western media until the public was sufficiently salivating for war against the latest CIA-invented enemy.

When one of America’s closest allies does it…not so much.

Ever ask yourself why the baptistborg never ever condemns the Saudis for doing the same things they condemn the Saudi's Sunni extremist head chopping proxy armies that are now occupying Libya and trying to overthrow the Syrian government do?

    I do.

Ever ask yourself why the baptistborg never talk about Saudi involvement in funding and arming the Sunni extremist head choppers and Christian persecutors and murderers now occupying Libya and trying to overthrow the Syrian government?

    I do.

Ever ask yourself why the baptistborg never want to discuss the classified "28 pages" that congressmen have said proves Saudi involvement in 9/11?

    I do.

    And I think I know why . . .

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.

They can't bring themselves to even consider for one moment that the "war on terror" is a scam and that "our leaders" would deliberately lie to start a war, or many wars.

That might call the whole corporate sponsored "war against terror" narrative and all the following wars, proxy wars and the need for the government to spy on us and track and trace our every move in violation of the constitution into question and that's a big no no!

Ever ask yourself why the baptistborg try so hard to blame the other team for the problems we'te facing when it's so obvious both teams have had a hand in creating those problems?

    I do.

poncho - it depends on # 1) the propaganda source we are being fed and the closely related # 2) The US political party sitting on the throne within the beltway.

Gross is right. Obama as well with the hugs and kisses. Do you know if Obama's Muslim heritage is Sunni?

His heritage as I understand it is Sunni. But that doesn't mean anything. He could be an atheist for all I know.
