I come from a Mennonite background and was wondering if there are others here also? Both of my grandparents fled Russia during the second World War and were given land with a group of people in an isolated area of Paraguay. From there, they built up a meager living but managed to survive the harsh, hot climate. Eventually, they migrated to BC, Canada where my parents met.

There's so much going on in the news these days about migrants and the feeling of having to leave one's homeland brings back all the family history. It seems like everyone at one point in the generations has had to flee to survive. It feels like a sad state that the world's in right now.

I grew up in a Mennonite area and while I have never been a Mennonite they have influenced me greatly in my walk with Christ. When I am visiting relatives, back home, I always attend a Mennonite church. I have great respect for Mennonites and have come to appreciate their stance on war. Welcome to the BB.

A favorite and very influential Bible teacher of mine, 'Uncle Eli', was the son of German Mennonite immigrants and grew up as one in Colorado.

There are a couple members that I know of that grew up as Mennonites, but both of their monikers escapes my memory right now.

Lol, I was baptized by a Yoder and everything! Biggrin

I may have changed my views on a few things, but I'll always cherish those old Mennonite families who started me in my spiritual training. The unassuming piety they exhibited is nigh indescribable, and their example is something I still aspire to.

I would have loved to have been able to raise my family back there, but there just weren't too many jobs.

Well, I really don't know if it was a joke...but if it was I thought it funny. If it wasn't I want my "winner" sticker back.

    Oh that's nice. How so?

When I say I'm Mennonite I mean mostly just by heritage. My family is all "Canadianized" and we have normalish lives. ie. We don't forsake the world or anything like that. We drive cars and have electronics and have jobs, etc. There are a lot that have immigrated to Canada over the last several decades. :) I'm also not really sure what makes some Mennonites deprive themselves of worldly things while others are more integrated. Menno Simons was just a man that passed on his philosophy of adult baptism & pacifism. Perhaps some groups of the more extremist nature took that further and shunned the world. I'm not totally sure.

Most of my views are compatible with Mennonites, and other Anabaptists.
