I don't know of anything I could have done to him. I preached a message on forgiveness last Sunday. He started speaking to me after service and when he prayed he thanked God for his pastor & fmly. Does this sound strange to anyone?

You know more about him than anyone here of course. What struck you as odd about it, or made you feel as if he were acting different toward you? I was thinking perhaps he just liked the message and it blessed him.

The Sunday before he would not even speak to me. He shook my hand but was very cold toward me.

My family has been through a very difficult situation here, still ongoing. We got to thinking that when people act that way, rude, cold as you say, perhaps they are going through a tough time too.

This is where just going straight to the person and speaking to them helps a lot. The deacon said he was stressed so I would take that for what it is. I would also pray with him and ask him if there was anything I could do. Why is he stressed? Is it something at work? Relationships at home? Financial issues?

I wouldn't over think it. He probably has a lot of his mind and he doesn't even realize that his behavior is different. Maybe he just needs time to himself to sort through whatever is going on. I am sure he will be back to himself soon. If you do have concerns you could ask him if there is anything you can do to help ease his streas. I would worry too much about it though.
